no, i don't think it's a sin as long as you aren't doing it for certain reasons
what are the "certain reasons"?

I agree with Rachael. Getting one's genitals or nipples pierced is sinful. Excessive piercing is probably sinful as well. As for tattoos, I've always heard that it's not sinful to have tattoos so long as they're not excessive, and so long as they're not done for the wrong reasons. Of course, having a Satanic tattoo would be wrong, so the subject of the tattoo(s) can't be sinful. (Pete Vere, a young Catholic canon lawyer, has a few Catholic tattoos on his back.)

God bless,

Jen

in deciding to get a tattoo, keep in mind that your body is a temple, and you don't want graffiti on it.
also keep in mind that tats are permanent, and what you like now may change. Tasteful body art is rare indeed.

are you thinking of getting a tattoo disturbedxfairy? I have a tattoo of a cross and a crown of thorns around it with a dove flying over it on my calf. Whats been said tats are for ever, but as long as there respectfull, and not on 90% of your body, go for it, i'll never regret i got mine :D

yeah, i don't think body piercings are sinful objectively because a lot of what people think is offensive they say is sinful but it's really a matter of personal taste. do you think that an Indian woman with a humongous (think: bling) nosering is offensive? what if it's part of the culture? I don't think holes are sinful, but if you get your tongue pierced or your genitals because it may help your sinful lifestyle, that's not cool. But if you just want to have your nipple pierced just to have it (and not show it to anyone, esp. if you're a girl!) , then i don't think it's inherently sinful. Same goes for tatoos. Satanic tatoos: bad. All others: okay, even if I don't like to look at them :)

Hi CreepyCrawler,

I think piercing one's nipples or genitalia is sinful because it's considered to be mutilation of the sexual organs.

God bless,

Jen

The rest is sinful, because it's mutiliation of the rest of your body. I say avoid them. Would Jesus get a tattoo? Mary get her nose peirced? Joseph get his eyebrow peirced?

God bless,

Mikey

but why is it considered "okay" for females (and some males) to get their earlobes pierced then?

Perhaps. Why not?

Would Jesus drive an SUV? take a hot shower? eat a Krispy Kreme donut? We don't know... It's all speculative.
