Angelone, have you seen it yourself? The movie was okay, but it didnt really provide info. No noncath will benefit much from it.

Dear Masturde,

Thank you for your post and your honest comments.... at the end of the day Therese will not do any harm if it manages to convert us catholics first..... if we are renewed .... well ... then there will be much more hope for non catholics as well - They will have to know we are christians by our love...... there is not other possible identification.... and I believe Therese can help us arrive as close to that as possible.

By the way, did you know that the actor who played the part of the Pope in the movie is a real Bishop ? He was the one who baptized Lindsey to the Catholic faith after the shooting.

In my prayers

i saw it. it was okay. could have been better. the screenwriting did nothing to really portray Therese as she really was, i think they could have gone more in depth instead of skipping around.

i think i only liked it cuz i read SOAS but then i also knew where they didn't tell the story right....and i read SOAS before seeing it.

but it was okay....if you have a chance to see it, go for it!

some screen shots were really bad and fuzzy but oh well, what can you say? lol

overall it was good and if you dont mind any of the above you'll be fine....

From the official website's discussion forum:

"Protestant Views...
I saw Therese yesterday. It was a powerful experience, moving, and I felt the Holy Spirit closely. As a Protestant, I don't know much of the Roman Catholic story behind Therese, but it strikes me that she was not so much a Catholic (or a non-Protestant), but a seeker of God. That's where I am, that's why her story resonates with me.

I'm wondering what other Protestants thought about the movie and the life of Therese."

“THE MEDIA CULTURE MUST BE EVANGELIZED…

…the special challenge before you, is to find ways to ensure that the voice of the Church is not marginalized or silenced in the modern arena of the media. You have a role to play in ensuring that the Gospel is not confined to a strictly private world. No! Jesus Christ must be proclaimed to the whole world; and therefore the Church must enter the great forum of the media with courage and confidence.” ~ His Holiness, Pope John Paul II

The reviews from even the Catholic press are just so-so. Check out Decent Films review for the National Catholic Register

I will still see it when it comes my way, or on DVD. If they are smart, that is where they could do so much more, on DVD. Commentary, her writings, interviews about her. For working on a shoestring budget, you've got to give them credit. Hopefully this will be a learning experience for them, and not their last attempt at making films about saints. They can't all have Mel's budget, or creative genius. But Mel said on "The World Over" on EWTN that he is not sure he'll ever make another film about faith because he's tackled the pinnicle subject.

i haven't seen it yet but i've heard both sides. I think the passion has provided a strong preceedent for any other catholic movies to follow. It may be dwarfing "therese" with all the time, money, publicity, and effort put into it over the past decade.

i look at this as a starting point for Luke Films. They can make maybe a couple million dollars when it stops its run in theaters. then there is the possibility of a dvd run which would probably bring in a bunch more money. this can lay the foundation of more saint movies by Luke Films, which can have a bigger budget, in turn would produce better films.

i think this is a great time for the Catholic film industry and we should support this film as much as we can, for it is only the beginning.

A post from the Fans' Forum:

"Hi!

My name is (Name), i'm 18, and my Confirmation name is Therese. I have been a Catholic for 7 months. I fell in love with St. Therese after a few times of blowing her off, after seeing the trailer alot of times from visiting the movie site and finally reading into her life, and I was amazed at her conduct during her death!

I also, plan on becoming a nun, I have wanted to be one for around 2 years I believe. Before I wanted to be one, I had a smell of roses in my dresser drawers, I do believe is a bit before my desire came up!"

Well said Phikoz  - I believe that in all honesty we should be supporting the sincere, courageous and risky effort of love put in by Luke Films who decided to do something about what many of us only complain about !!

God Bless

While watching the film, i (like many) found myself wishing the pace would quicken. This would have allowed them to include a few more details, i.e. her letters to Maurice.

Despite that, at the end of the movie i found myself very touched. Every time i meet up with Therese and her simplicity, it makes me realize what an egotistical peacock i am, and makes me recommit myself to humility.

--oh, another frequent critique is that the film was too mushy. But my pastor made a good point about that. The French culture is far more expressive of love and affection than American culture. Families in France or Italy might find nothing unusual about the Martins' familial affections.
