Should women wear

Ash Wednesday

My boyfriend's gramma is hardcore Catholic... and very insistent on keeping the family Polish heritage alive. She says to me, "When you come back to Sweden, you're going to visit POLAND!"

And with her these aren't invitations. They're commands. Not "are you hungry?" but "YOU ARE HUNGRY! EAT!!!"

"You're going to POLAND!"
I am less concerned about their heads being covered and more concerned about their breasts and midriffs and legs . . .
so because society's dress has gotten so bad, Christian women should settly for at least being better that those that dress immodestly at mass? nah, I think we're called to strive for better than simply "best". if the whole world was killing each other in cold blood and all i was doing was slicing people's arms off, i couldn't justify that could i? that of course doesn't relate exactly, i'm just usin it to get accross the point that best relatively to everyone else means didly squat, go the extra mile.

I agree, it shouldn't be an either or thing. My church has about 20% of the women wearing headscarves in church at all times and 70% wearing the headscarf for communion only. Still not where it should be. I'll get on the priest to start enforcing things.

yup. :rolling: :rolling:

Polish lends itself to commands very well. It is really fun and easy to order people around in Polish.

People have enough yokes. They don't need extra ones just because you like veils.

Someday I'm going to teach a theology class on this website and help people understand the principle of development of doctrine.

 i understand completely all about developement of doctrine

i have never condemned the Holy See for loosening the discipline

but i still stand in good company with St. Paul and every good Catholic you can site all the way up to Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen in my desire that women wear veils to mass.

it's not just because I like veils, it's because the Church has always "liked" veils and I happen to agree. Edited by Aluigi

Changing doctrine is the first step to destroying the church. That's why I've converted 3 catholics to Orthodoxy and I haven't even been Chrismated yet.

developing doctrine isn't changing doctrine. developing doctrine cannot contradict previous doctrine, only elaborate.

however, I can see how Blazer's statement in here about developing doctrine can confuse you as it seems to indicate that 180 degree turn around of a doctrine can constitute developement, which it certainly cannot.

you can't just throw out "dev of doct" on everything and make it alright.

So loosening restrictions is development of doctrine? I'm confused. I like Orthodoxy where we have no central governing body but rather a loose coalition of bishops - nothing ever gets done.

lol that's great, no center of unity like Our Lord wanted.. how are you to be one just as He is one with the Father if you have no one person who is coequal to you but also head of you? anyway, that is for a whole different discussion in the debate table i presume.

developement of doctrine is like, well the Immaculate Conception for instance. it contradicts no previous doctrine, but elaborates on age old traditions.

So it's not like the head coverings then?

Well, it is quite simple. Bishops serve as the local authorities. Just like the Bishop of Rome should concern himself with Rome.
