There is no reason for jeans to be inferior or for dresses to be better than jeans and a sweater. To be completely honest people are judging others on what the wear too much... DancesforLove
Also, God is with us all at all times so we are in jeans and hoodies in his presence, we're in pj's, all sorts of clothes. I would dress up on Sunday yes, but I don't look down on those who didn't either have the proper time, money, or whatever reason it is that they didn't dress up. [/quote] its not the jeans are inferior, its just what pspx said about manners. jeans are appropriate for certain times and more dressy clothes are appropriate for other times. its not judging people to make note of this. what you wear and how you present yourself in general (brushed hair, clean face, no stains, etc), shows a certain respect to the situation you find yourself in. going to a movie or the grocery store doesn't require anything more respectful than something modest, so who cares about sweatpants? going to Sunday Mass, going to a funeral, going to a formal dinner, requires a more formal attire because the circumstances demand more respect. its the whole inner outer disposition thing. we're body AND soul, and the one should reflect the other. Sojourner
I think the most important thing in going to church is the state of your heart, not the state of your clothing. That being said, I would say it's desirable, as much as it is possible, to dress in a manner befitting the occasion. Although I from time to time have worn jeans to church, I'm never totally comfortable in doing so -- just as I would be uncomfortable in wearing them to a wedding. If I don't have anything else to wear, I figure it's my own fault that I didn't take the time to do laundry or leave enough time to properly prepare myself. Piccoli Fiori JMJ
I feel for you Balthazor... My mom raised me to NEVER EVER wear jeans to Mass, unless it was an utter emergency or something like that... I think in my entire life of attending Mass, I've only worn jeans once or twice, at least on Sundays. During my senior year, I went to Mass every morning before school, but I cannot remember what I wore for that entire period of time... I know that when my nicest pants were clean, I would wear those pants first... I know that during the summer months, I would always dress nicely that morning, and then after Mass, I would come home and change into a "sturdier" change of clothes... But I do run out of nicer clothes and I have to resort to jeans... Funny thing also, I've been wearing the same pair of pants EVERY Sunday for over a month now... They are nice brown pants... But then you stop and think about how people dress for other things in their day... You should be dressing as though Mass is the singularly the most important thing for that day, because it IS!!!! That's my gripe... It really bugs me too... I know it shouldn't bug me as much as it does, but lately, I've been ignoring it and focusing in on the beauty of the Mass... What ever happened to your "Sunday Best"?

Oik
This thread has happened before. When is comes to it, jeans aren'ta big deal but have caused a big deal to not be a big deal. People in the past were willing to sacrifice modesty by dressing in jeans and work clothes etc. and now here we are today, they are a modern daily occurence. I don't find bule jeans or even pants to be attactive on females. I also don't see how they are "warm." I'm sure as heck not warm when I wear jeans. Sometimes I wish I am supposed to be a monk or a priest, just so I don't have to put up with the stupidity of fashion. Two things that hurt me to hear about: Nuns in jeans or slacks The Virgin Mary in anything but what she is traditionally represented in I am wearing a hoodie.
