23 Ways to Identify a Faithful Parish

I think my parish passes 19/23, but with kneelers, we don't have them, but that does not stop people from kneeling.
For some reason, I'm not sure if a priest has ever discussed controversial issues such as contraception or abortion during a homily, but nobody other than the priest has ever read the Gospel or done the homily.
The mission statement is very short, so the Vatican is not mentioned, I'm not sure if there's a pro-life ministry or if NFP is discussed within marriage preparation.

7)Not only is there no inclusive language, there is no English except during the Sermon.

12)Gregorian Chant and Polyphony are certainly centered on God.
13)There are no Extraordinary Ministers, despite the fact that the Church is packed full, standing room only (and very little of that is left).
14)Not sure if they have a mission statement.
15)Yes

20)I don’t know if they do marriage prep.

let me guess.. Crisis magazine did this right? lol

this list shows indicators, that if one of these things isn't there: something might be up. if it says community because it wants to avoid using the term "church" there's something up. but maybe it just says community because it's trying to develope an authentic Catholic Community in the area, that is good. so don't worry about strict adherence to this list, it's just that if one of em isn't followed you should look into why. some of them are liturgical abuses though, and those if even present are wrong in themselves regardless of a reason.

My Church is definately 'community' centered in the sense that it goes way beyond just Mass. I think that might be a good thing. Its not like they left Catholic out.

i got a question, i go to the shrine here in San Juan Texas, and they have a giant Mariachi, but they play music for all the visitors from different parts of the usa, they are not suppose to play music for these people right? The priests encourage that we hold hands during the our Father and the Mosignor sometimes leaves out the sign of the cross in the begining of mass. Not only that but he likes to crack jokes to make the people laugh....There is like more music in this place than the protestant churches. What can I do about this???
