Ok, if God created everything and He can only do good, how did Satan come to be? Sorry if this is a stupid question, it is just something I have wondered for a while.

I was pondering this question a while ago while I was talking with the postulator for the Canonization of Fr. Michael J. McGivney. He said he wasn't sure. Here is the question.

When a man and woman become one in the Congugal Union the two become ONE FLESH. So let's say the woman dies and is Canonized a Saint. Is the Husband a 1st/2nd Class Relic? This is something it is interesting to ponder. Thanks.

Totus Tuus,
Andrew Jospeh

I do not think that a person can be classified as a relic. The reason is because of free will. Albeit, the woman may be a saint, but her husband could commit mortal sin and separate himself from God.

For the first question, ultimately it is a mystery, but one that is basically summed up in free will as well. All things that God created are good, but Satan exercised his will to turn away from God, to rebel, and to be cast out along with the other angels who made the same decision.
It is the same for us, only worked out in time. The angels have seen the beatific vision and exist outside of time and therefore have made a one time decision for or against God.
Furthermore, if we take a Thomistic approach we know that evil is the absence of good, much like decay on a tooth. Without the tooth, which is a good, the decay would not be there. Satan, was created good, but is decayed to the nth degree and so will all who reject the goodness of God that comes to us through Christ Jesus our Lord.
