A little help with an apologetic arguement

You've heard the charge before. I just got it thrown at me yesterday. There is no biblical evidence that Peter was in Rome. Paul in all of his writings when he was in Rome never mentions Peter.

Now the usual defense of this is that we would say first of all that there is lots of historical evidence that Peter was in Rome. Then we would also perhaps use the verse in Peter's leters where he refers to Babylon, being a code word for Rome.

But I think another possibility I have not seen is to call them at their own game. They claim that Paul wrote all those letters from Rome. Where is the biblical evidence for it? We know from Acts and I think it is Titus that Paul did spend time in Rome. Is there any indication in scripture that he wrote his letters in Rome?

Don't get me wrong. I think he did write most of them there but we have to make them be consistent and hold themselves to the same standard they want to apply to us.

Any comments?

you and i both know that there are many traditions that protestants live by that have no explicit reference in scripture.

as for Peter in rome, these may help:

I know about showing that Peter was in Rome. My point is for them to prove that Paul was in Rome. Whether I agree that he was or not is immaterial. We need to hold their feet to the fire on the very things they try and hold us to is my point.
Mainly what I am looking for is that my assessment is correct. That from the Bible you can't determine that Paul was in Rome for an extended period of time or that he wrote the majority or any of his letters from Rome.

Blessings
