Apotheoun
In Byzantine Catholic theology a distinction is made between the divine essence, which man cannot participate in, and the divine energies, which man can participate in. The uncreated divine energies are God as He gives Himself to man, that is, they are God outside of His essence. Thus, when a man participates in the divine energies, he is divinized by them and becomes a son of God in the only begotten Son of God.
