Dear peeps,

I wanna know...

1. What are dogmas and doctrines?
2. How can there be three persons in one in the Trinity?
3. How did people know that Jesus and the prophets were for real, rather than a lunatic?
4. Why do people die?
5. Is there really life after death? How true is redemption?
6. What is the Immaculate Conception?
7. Why don't Protestants believe in the sign of the cross?
8. Why does sin exist? Can we prevent it?
9. If God didn't want Adam and Eve to eat of the Tree of Knowledge, why did He put it there in the first place? And why was the snake in the Garden of Eden?
10. Why are euthanasia and abortion sins? Do you go straight to Hell if you commit suicide?
11. Why is the Church against cloning; if God gave us the intelligence to do it in the first place, then why is it wrong?

I know it's a lot but I would really appreciate the answers from the Catholic point of view...

Thanks!

Peace <><

bookofjohn,

I'll do what I can with the time I have, but my answers are necessarily VERY simple and straightforward - for further explanation, I point you to the apologetics board.

1. Dogmas are those things which must be believed, doctrines are the human expression/explanation of those beliefs.
2. It's not a mathematical formula. You have one person (human) acting in one nature (human). The Trinity is three Persons (divine) acting in one nature (divine).
3. Faith.
4. Because of original sin.
5. Yes. Redemption is as true as it gets.
6. The Immaculate Conception occurred when Our Lady was conceived without original sin in the womb of St. Anne.
7. :idontknow:
8. The existence of sin is a mystery. We can prevent sin by...not...doing...it. We must also rely heavily on the grace of God.
9. *shrug* The tree was good, and God created all good things. Man misued it - remember, too, that in the time of Genesis, "knowledge" was not considered a virtuous thing. Wisdom was virtuous and good, knowledge was evil. I don't know why the snake was there.
10. They are sins because they fall under the category of murder. All human life is sacred, even that which might appear to us to be "useless". One does not necessarily go straight to Hell if he commits suicide. There are too many factors to nail down a yes/no answer.
11. God gave me the intelligence to blow up buildings, but it's still immoral to do it. Cloning does not respect human life, but treats it as a commodity - something which can be used for our betterment. Human life can never be used (uti).

I hope this helps.

Yours,
Pio Nono :idontknow:
