Where in the Bible is worship to Mary?

Before starting, let me say that I am 100% confirmed Catholic, the problem is with my sister in Christ, a co-worker, a protestant to be exact.

Today in the office (BTW I work in a protestant organisation) there was a bit of discussion about Mary. She says that there is nowhere in the Bible, that says you have to worship Mary and all about rosary and "Hail mary". But, I asked her to give her Bible and pointed out to Revelation 12, where there is a discussion about the Woman and the dragon. That the woman will bore a son who will rule the earth with an iron scepter.

She says that Revelation is too complicated, but asked me to think about salvation, baptism which is very simple for lay person. I said it's just Revelation is so simple.

I've her Bible with me on my desk now, where in Luke 1:28 it's written "Greetings, you who are highly favoured!" Apparently, it's altered translation. They base everything in Bible. How can they claim that it's right when they alter it for their own good?

I want to drive out to the point that we don't worship Mary. She says that Catholics never agree that we worhip Mary, but they (protestants) believe we do worship Mary.

Although, I've much to argue, I've controlled myself then. But, now I want to get a crystal explanation to tell her tomorro

Go to the PhatMass "resources" link above and check out stuff there. You can't change someone's mind if they assign their own motives to you, so it's a losing battle about the 'worship' thing. You can enlighten her about how we 'honor' her (not worship) by reading up about it and hoping the Grace will change her heart eventually. Don't lose your temper.

Blessed Be God!!!

Welcome Christaddict!

Well as Jas said you can check out there.

I wanted to comment about your Revelation text. If you ask your sister who the dragon would be she would say it's satan right? and if you ask her who the baby is she would say Jesus right? and the other angels there however many people will denounce that the woman could be mary? strange I know but you and I know that of course it's mary.

This is from me personally and from my studying and research on Mary.

Now if you look in her bible and where the Angel greets her what does Mary do. The bible says that Mary was deeply troubled by this greeting. Why? B/C no one was greeted like this before AND if you have an ANGEL proclaiming this to her, we know that there is def. some importance to her.

Just a little tid bit. I could go on if you like. Just shoot me a message.

Praying for ya buddy. I know besides the eucharist being the hardest, Mary is a close behind.

God Bless
Jason Gregory

Hey,

I have found my self in the same sort of predicament before, I do not understand why protestants can never get it. It is written countless times about our Mother in the Bible, new and old testaments. We also have all the historically varied accounts of her apparitions though out the world, in particular Fatima, which the miracle of the sun was witnessed by 70000 eyewitnesses of every walk of life (Catholics, protestants, atheists, ect).

Some good examples I have found are as follows:

Matthew 1:20:
Where the angel of the Lord told St Joseph do not be afraid to take Mary.

Then agian in John with Jesus's last will for us before he died:

Deciple behold your Mother, Mother behold your son.

Also check out Jude, im not entirely sure the wording but its to the effect of this
Stating your are the splendid joy Queen of Jerusalem...(profectic)

Other great resouces in Catholic tradition also include the Carmelites, the first to honour the Virgin mother at Pentecost and Fatima, Our Lady stating that Only I can Save you NOW!!!, endorsed by all popes since, Pope JP II stated that this message is more relavent today than ever, and is addressed to every human being!

Try using some of those, and keep looking, keep praying.

Peace
-Aaron

A buddy pointed out that the confusion about "worshipping" Mary has some origin in the impoverishment of Protestant worship of God. Most flavors of Protestantism have severely limited understanding of liturgy, if they even have liturgy. Moreover, the idea of sacrifice is nearly gone for many (I know, not all!). So when they decide it's time to "worship" God, all they can really do is sing some songs and tell some stories and talk about how great He is. Which are certainly great ways to spend your time!

Well we sing songs and tell stories and talk about how great Mary is. Looks like worship, if that's all you know.

We don't worship Mary. We venerate her. With out her there would be no 'Yes' to God and no Christ. She is the reason for our joy and the boast of all of us. Besides, don't you love your Momma? I do, and Jesus Did. So, when then, if you truly love Jesus, will you not truly love his Momma? If it is good enough for Jesus, then it's good enough for me! ^_^
