Pio Nono
JMJ 12/12 - Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe Christie_M, Purple, in the Roman Church, is symbolic of mourning or penance. Though Advent isn't a penitential season in the same way that Lent is, it is a time for purification from sin and imperfection so that we can receive the Lord at Christmas. The pink candle represents what we call "Gaudete Sunday", or the Third Sunday of Advent. "Gaudete" is a command - rejoice! The Church reminds us with this command that all this is for a reason, namely, the joy of encountering the Incarnate Son of God who brings salvation to the world. Hope this helps! Yours, Pio Nono
