photosynthesis
It amazes me how much power government wields over private businesses these day. We are really little different than the Communist Chinese system of things. Shall we now force home depot to stock twinkies because someone might come to their store starving and find only power toolls? It's silly. Oh wait they should be forced to open a pharmacy with contraceptives as well. Sad that Walmart is caving so easily.
this makes me mad too! I don't like the idea of government having the power to force someone to sell something. I could see why the government would prohibit certain things from being sold, like not selling alcohol to minors, or drugs to people without prescriptions. But what gives the government any right to force a corporation to sell something they don't want to sell?
jezic
it is the sneak attack of Communism, not by the people themselves but by the author of the very system.
HisChild
Because it is a government regulated agency, the pharmacy is. If Wal Mart does NOT comply, they could lose their right to accept scripts from Medicare patients. There is a ruling that is going on in our senate (or house of rep, can't recall which) that, if passed would require any facility, like a hospital, to provide, as an OB/GYN 'service', an abortion. As an OR nurse, that makes me It also makes me Because one of the hospitals they are having issues with is our local Catholic hospital. Interference between church and state. I cry, but I thank Jesus that I won't be around for that, as a nurse. i don't want to lose my license, for non compliance, which I was told could be a possibility, if this is passed.
At the surgery center where I work, I asked in my interview if they did abortions. The answer was no, only if there's already been a miscarriage and she needs a D&C. (technical term is incomplete abortion, meaning the baby is not living anymore, but her body can't expel it. Happens, unfortunately, a lot) When I said, 'good', I was asked if I would refuse to work there if they did abortions. I said yes. They were dumbfounded, even though they don't do abortions there. I just found it incomprehensible. I've even checked up on the doctors who've come to the center. They all say they don't do them. So I know I'm safe. But I was also in another interview in a hospital, where they said 'for now' I would be able to just not be assigned abortion cases, but 'soon' the govt will not allow anyone to refuse to take care of a certain patient. I said that would be when I quit.
Norseman82
Natural law prohibits compliance in this case. The matter is written on their hearts.
You're forgetting, these days businesses don't have hearts... CatherineM
I guess health care professionals who get caught in the conscience clamp could move into geriatrics. I guess then they'd have to deal with euthanasia. It's going to be an interesting road to travel for medicos in the coming years.
princessgianna
I never will understand this "forceful" thing of carrying stuff. I mean if you don't like it don't go there! SIMPLE!
