franciscanheart
I know that a lot of protestants write in and highlight their bibles. I do not know as many Catholics who do this. Is that a protestant thing or something? and what about those bible covers? they all have one!
missionseeker
I wonder the same thing. Although, I have one bible cover. But my mother sewed it out of noah's ark fabric- it's pretty and not plastic.
Fides_et_Ratio
I mark in several of my Bibles. One of them though, I keep unmarked as it serves a mostly devotional purpose. My study/apologetics Bibles, however, are marked up like crazy. I have a Bible cover, but I don't like it, and quit using it. I think it destroyed my Bible rather than protected it (you know, keeping markers and 100000 other pages in the pockets puts more wear and tear on a Bible... philothea
I used to highlight, underline, or circle stuff... but later when I looked at what I'd marked, the markings weren't helpful, just distracting.
Brother Adam
Idea! own the following: 1 RSV - beautiful leather copy for devotional reading and sacred spaces and 'preaching'. 1 RSV - hardbound for marking up, highlighting, taking notes. 1 NAB - presentation copy 1 NAB - for marking up. Bible covers make your Bible more durable. You are Catholic. You should carry your Bible everywhere because you believe it is the sacred writings that are given to us as divine revelation through the Church. I have a Bible cover that covers both my RSV presentation copy as well as an Australian Catechism.
Brother Adam
I always try to keep a Bible and catechism on me so Protestants don't think that they own the Bible and so I can show them my teaching is not my own but the teaching of Christ.
Era Might
I underline notable passages, but that's it. I don't write anything down because how many times can I look at a random thought I had?

Not 'everywhere' as in 'everywhere' but I think it is wise to have one in the car, at school, or at work. When an oppertunity to pray with scripture or to evangelize presents itself, you have a copy.
photosynthesis
I mainly use my oxford edition RSV, leatherbound with a cute little St. Christopher medal. I don't write in it and if I ever lend it to anyone I usually go on about how if they spill coffee on it they die. I used to mark up my Bibles, but I've taken to writing down whatever my thoughts are about the Scriptures in a journal instead of writing in the actual books. furay
I don't write in my Bibles - why deface a copy of Holy Writ with my own notes? It's not hard to carry a little notebook around with me if I wanted to jot something down. My CASB has note pages at the end of each chapter of St Matthew - they are empty and they will stay that way durnit!
Nathan
I never mark up my Bibles. I view my various versions and editions of Scripture as Sacred, Holy texts and I treat them as precious -- they're kept on their own separate shelf, and I even hold them carefully as I read so as not to scuff them up. Underlining and highlighting in them is just something I do not do. That said, I don't see anything *wrong* with doing so, if it helps you get closer to God's Word. It just isn't my style. franciscanheart
Sometimes I don't even realize what I'm doing. I don't even know how the pen ends up in my hand. One minute I'm reading and the next I have marks on the page...
rkwright
I have a St. Joseph's 'new testament' Bible I carry in my backpack. Its a really small one, something maybe you could fit in your pocket. I pull it out if I'm ever in class early and read it. But as far as marking it up... I don't mark any of my books, even textbooks... so no. Edited March 7, 2006 by rkwright
