ironmonk
The specific question I have is "how do you forward a port".
From your router's web interface. For example... Linksys is typically http://192.168.1.1 Belklin typically uses http://192.168.2.1 D-Link typically uses http://192.168.0.1 Using a browser go to those local sites. If you haven't set a password for it, you'll need to. Find the port forwarding option. You'll see a lot of links, with Linksys click the "Advanced Tab" then "Forwarding" Once you find the forwarding section, just plug the numbers in, select TCP and sometimes UDP options, then enter your local IP. Save, and viola. If anyone needs help, we can chat via TeamSpeak or MSN voice... it'll be much easier talking people through it rather than typing. GB & PC! Old_Joe
I think I figured it out. I have a d-Link router and it doesn't say anything on "forwarding ports." I was able to set exceptions for the firewall and assign ports to specific applications. so maybe...
ironmonk
Which model do you have? You can find the manual here: http://www.dlink.com/ On the left side of the page near the top, you'll see a "quickfind" option... select your product... If you have the DI-524 (Wireless G Router) then here is the link: http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=316 Under the "Features" section, you'll see a link for the "Product Manual"...Click it... there might be various versions... select yours... and then once you download it, on your keyboard push "CTRL + F" and in the search box, type "Forwarding" or "Forward"... that should get you the instructions for doing it. ironmonk
Cool... I don't have my D-Link setup yet, I got it to replace my failing Linksys.... Make sure you put a password on it now. You should not have to setup a DMZ host. I know there is a forward option with it, it's just a pain trying to find it. I'll try to get mine setup in the next few days and find the settings and tell you how to get there. God Bless, ironmonk

From the left menu click the "Virtual Server" button, and then the "Advanced" tab. Example: Name: AOE Ports 1 Private IP: 192.168.0.100 (whatever your local IP is) Protocol Type: TCP Private Port: 5000-50000 Public Port:5000-50000 (hopefully it can do a range... if that doesn't work, try page 22.) You don't want to do DMZ, that will open your PC to the net. God Bless, ironmonk
