Sojourner
Here are mine (don't think I've ever posted pics of my tattoos ...) (on my right leg, making me a "dirt leg") (on my left foot, making me a "(insert derogatory comment here)") I also have one on my lower back (the "tramp stamp") ... much more difficult for me to photograph on my own, even with a cool camera phone. The leg one I've had maybe 5 years now? Can that be right? I think so. The foot one about 3 years. The back one about 4 years. I don't plan to get any others. I've satisfied any current body decorating cravings with henna tattoos. Much less painful and less permanent. If I could go back, I don't know whether I'd still get them. I've never had problems covering mine up if the occasion called for it. But ... the whole "permanent reminder of a temporary feeling" is true. I've given this a bunch of thought over the years, and I think my tattoos were, in large part, an attempt to beautify parts of my body I didn't like and didn't think were attractive. Now that I'm older and more comfortable in my own skin, I'm better able to be thankful for the way I'm created. I've considered having mine removed, but a) it's an expensive, painful process and b) my tattoos are part of me and part of the story of my life ... erasing that somehow doesn't seem quite right. franciscanheart
Funny how someone always has to say things that are not there. What I posted above is what they are called... pick up a trendy magazine that talks about them... the term "tramp stamp" came from a magazine, and the term "dirt leg" is used by a bunch of people I know. Totally ignore "expections to the rule". Totally ignore "do not tattoo yourselves". Totally ignore how it will limit you in life. There is no "right" reason to get a tattoo. There might be a reason that is not wrong. Social ignorance is not bliss... people who are thinking of getting tattoos should know what some people will think and how it can limit them. Don't be so naive.
Oh I certainly didn't ignore it. I took it all in. I guess my thinking was that the whole "how it will limit your life" kind of thing is not really a huge deal unless you're getting it on your arm (wrist, hand, lower arm) or your lower leg. Honestly, if you have one on your lower back and someone sees it without you meaning for them to, you should probably get a new shirt. I don't see that ever being a problem if you're dressed appropriately. I understand where you're coming from. I really do. However, I think you're a little harsh in your delivery. I think you push it to the point of arrogance with that post which did allow me to 'disregard' sections when replying (though not while I was thinking about what you said). I agree that a person with a visible tattoo will be treated differently. Even I am shocked sometimes when I hear of certain people being tattooed (and in multiple places, usually). However, I think the same can be said for men that decide to shave their legs, girls who wear skirts all the time, and any other thing that is socially out of the norm these days. I'm struggling to verbalize my point. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I'm sure people understand the ill effects a visible tattoo could have. And since we are not bound by Levitical law, why even bring it up? You just sounded snotty. Sarah_JC
I heard, from a pregnant lady (so perhaps it's true), that lower back tattoos can make it impossible to get an epidural. Anyone heard this?

KatFromSVDP
Like Musturde said, our old youth minister, his wife, and our music minister have tattoos. They're all religious or family related. I personally wouldn't get one, but I'm not opposed to them on other people. If I was to get one, it'd probably be a small one like a cross or something. Anyone heard this?
haha whoever told you that was pulling your leg. Why would a tattoo interfere with an epidural? An epidural is a needle inserted into your spine that admisters medication to anethetise a portion of your torso (post op) or the entire lower body (labour). There is no way that a tattoo would influence that!!!
salveregina
Ohh I have a tattoo too! I got it on my 18th birthday. My name is Angela, and it's a nice little angel on my ankle. A cherub. Very cute, and very me. It's interesting the responses I get from people. I notice scowls from some people (who must think I'm one of those dang young punks), and others think it's pretty sweet. Whenever I get harsh looks from old ladies, the words of the wise Rhett Butler come to mind. Frankly my dear... In all honesty, I can think of a lot worse things I could be involved in. Also, I find it kind of fun confusing people. They see the tattoo, think I'm a punk, then talk to me, and find out I'm really very conservative. Is it wrong to laugh at them when their prejudices are proven incorrect?
