franciscanheart
I don't hear the ten virtues of Mary being talked about often but I believe they are a good topic. We talked about them a lot last year on our girls' retreat and I know that I definitely benefited from them (and continue to benefit - no doubt). So... if you had to choose one or two virtues to work on, which would they be? 10 Virtues of Mary as told by St. Louis de Monfort: "...profound humility, her lively faith, her blind obedience, her continual mental prayer, her mortification in all things, her surpassing purity, her ardent charity, her heroic patience, her angelic sweetness, and her divine wisdom..." If I had to pray for help in a couple of the areas I would probably need to most focus on ... all of them. Haha. So hard to choose just one. Probably... profound humility, ardent charity, and heroic patience. (I know I picked three - so sue me.)
philothea
Humility is the queen of virtues. Gotta go for the best. Also, humility is easy to work on! Sweetness and wisdom are tough... Honestly, though, I think the best tactic is to work on whatever virtue you're already best at, and try to perfect that. Once you have one perfect virtue, you will have all the rest. journeyman
then I'd pick the one that I'd want others to show toward me as I'm failing miserably . . .

franciscanheart
Then I guess my original picks today were good ones... especially ardent charity.
kateri05
well crud, just two? : definitely humility and i'm also gonna go with.... continual mental prayer, charity and patience. i think charity and patience are really two sides to the same coin - how often does uncharitablily result from our INability to wait? - so really i just picked three and thanks for this thread laura, i'm totally using this when we talk about Mary during summer school! chris
I do fail in the all everyday and I crawl back to her with horrid guilt when I pray the rosary. However, above trying to master them all, the ones I would want to work on the most would be: Mental Prayer and Heroic Paitence.
she_who_is_not
An older Jesuit manual of prayer i have, suggests picking a virtue for every month and focusing on it with aspirations and ejaculations troughout the day. So, you could focus on an aspect of the Litany of the Virgin that reflects that virtue, or scripture, or any other meditation to use throughout the day. sadora
Oooh, good question!!! Hmmmm.... I'd have to go with 1.) her profound humility, and 2.) her heroic patience. Ehhh....and at times, I know I could definitely work on angelic sweetness.... that one needs to be attached to "heroic patience." When impatience hits me, out goes anything resembling sweetness... O, the shame!
Guest Rick777
Ah! St. Louis de Monfort is one of my favorite saints. Just two...hmmm.....I would have to pick: 1)Her lively faith 2)Her mortification in all things (And because Hughey picked 3 so am I) 3)Her continual mental prayer (And because I'm impatient like Sadora) 4)Her heroic patience Edited June 17, 2006 by Rick777
