catholic_apologetics
Accutane is powerful and very expensive stuff. When I was on it without insurance it was $400 a month. I had very bad persistant acne for 5 years before finally trying it. I had to sign a form saying I would not get pregnant 0_o as well. It really played around with my emotions so I was also required to see a psychiatrist once every two weeks while on it. The problem was about a year after I got off of it the acne all came back. Now I use a couple of over the counter products from Netragena aggressively and it keeps it under control.
xTrishaxLynnx
As for a cleanser, you MUST try Ahava bars. They are $7 on their website (I started using it at the monastery when another sister gave me a bar). It's like a miracle how awesome this soap works. It's a compound of dead sea salt and minerals, but works like a really smooth soap. Even though it costs more than something on the shelf at Wal-Mart, the bars literally last 5 months even if you wash your face three or four times a day. Check your local drug store (the one in Birmingham sold them but here in my city they don't so I had to go to the website to buy it after I got home): www.ahavaus.com
And the bars are okay to use in place of a regular facial cleanser? They do sound good, and I'm probably gonna try it out... but I can't decide between the purifying mud bar and the mineral salt bar It sounds like the purifying mud soap is more for exfoliating - which means I probably shouldn't use it every time I wash my face... so maybe I'll get both. Sojourner
I had a bad stress-related breakout over finals that has taken about a month to clear up and I'm still getting some here and there. I've had it happen before and it generally clears up if a) I reduce stress and b) I am more diligent about skin care. Here is my regimen: Wash face (Aveeno foaming face cleanser) Apply toner Apply Nutragena on-the-spot which is a mild benzoyl peroxide formulation. I use it all over even though it's "on the spot." Apply lotion ... I use Arbonne daily moisturizer and would use their entire face care line if I could afford it. This has been working pretty well; I just do it in the mornings. I still am having some problems but it is not nearly as bad as it was.

My mom uses the Clinique line of products and loves them. The initial cost was a shock to some but it was an investment of sorts. And those face bars are like the ones Totus Tuus suggested in that they last forever. Totus Tuus, I have a question for you. Is your skin on the dry side or oily side? I noticed you had talked often about your skin drying out so I'm guessing dry. If I'm right, would you recommend the moisturizing soap or the mineral salt soap? I know you initially recommended the mineral salt (and I plan on trying it, at least for a while) but I wonder if the other wouldn't be better for me. I have never tried the mud bar but you're right- if you have sensitive skin like I do you probably want to stay away from that, or at least use it less often than the regular. Yes, the mineral bar is used in place of a normal cleanser. I used to use Neutragena bars and they work well, but there was always kind of a filmy residue layer or something after I washed my face. The Ahava doesn't have that.
Good plan. My mom uses the Clinique line of products and loves them.
I wish I could afford to buy the Clinique stuff My skin is strange when it comes to oily/dry. Most of the year it's oily, in the "T-zone" (and that is hugely influenced by what I eat - i.e., fried foods). But in the colder months, especially when I'm using a benzoyl product or a Retin-A product, it gets super dry. If I apply a moisturizer it can even out again within a day. It's just a big balancing act! I have the Ahava moisturizing bar but I haven't tried it yet because I haven't used up the regular bar I already have. I would say that anyone can go with the regular mineral bar but let me know if you try out the other products... I'd like to know how they work! CrossCuT
Another option- deal with it.
??????!!!!!!!!!!! That is like telling a person suffering from depression to just get over it. Acne is something millions of people suffer from all over the world everyday! And they DO try to deal with it! But their self esteem gets shot down by people like you, so go somewhere else!
she_who_is_not
I reccomend this book to anyone, dry skin, oily, balanced, or severe acne. Pure Skin It is a holistic approach to skin care and she gives you recipes to make your own skin care products and incorporates an eating plan and herbal supplements, etc. I have very dry stress reactive skin and her milks and creams were the best I have tried. I was given the book by a friend with bad acne and my sister (who is trying to conceive) said the recipes helped her for the first time since she had stopped taking the yucky stuff. Dudette
Okay, I didn't read through all 3 pages..but has anyone ever reccomended you to change your way of eating? That could be a big problem too, if you drink your 8-10 cups of water a day, it will certainly help, you will notice you won't get pimples as easily. Also, stay away from sugar, sugar is most likely the MAIN factor in getting acne. (I can usually guess when I've eaten sugarful foods, when my acne is going to come up) I am on a perscription, and I don't remember the name of it, but as you seem to have been on a whole lot I don't consider it all that helpful to you, however, here's then name: Clindamycin- Taro. It works pretty well. Oh yeah, another thing... NEVER touch your pimples, no matter how much you want to. The more you pick them, the more acne comes up. People seem to think the opposite, but, if you pick your pimples, your pores will be left as bigger holes for the rest of your life.
