Acne

agh! I hate acne. My siblings and I have always had it pretty bad. I'm sorry though I can't say I can help any :( I've never tried a prescription before, I just use a face wash and a cream. There are products you can get that heal a pimple over the course of one night, or maybe a day but really, I can't think of anything that can clear your acne completely. I just put up with the breakouts since I don't usually wear make up- and just try to keep my face as clear as possible.
NEVER touch your pimples, no matter how much you want to. The more you pick them, the more acne comes up. People seem to think the opposite, but, if you pick your pimples, your pores will be left as bigger holes for the rest of your life.
good advice! I've learned to just leave them alone always.

Okay, I didn't read through all 3 pages..but has anyone ever reccomended you to change your way of eating? That could be a big problem too, if you drink your 8-10 cups of water a day, it will certainly help, you will notice you won't get pimples as easily. Also, stay away from sugar, sugar is most likely the MAIN factor in getting acne. (I can usually guess when I've eaten sugarful foods, when my acne is going to come up)

I am on a perscription, and I don't remember the name of it, but as you seem to have been on a whole lot I don't consider it all that helpful to you, however, here's then name: Clindamycin- Taro. It works pretty well.

Oh yeah, another thing... NEVER touch your pimples, no matter how much you want to. The more you pick them, the more acne comes up. People seem to think the opposite, but, if you pick your pimples, your pores will be left as bigger holes for the rest of your life.

I drink more than ten cups of water a day; I always have :) I'm sure it helps... I can't imagine how much worse my skin would be if I didn't.

I talked to my dermatologist in Birmingham about the issue of what you eat being related to how your skin acts. He said that there is usually no foundation for that argument, but if you notice that a certain ingredient causes your skin to get worse, then obviously stay away from that. For me, it's oily foods. I think it's mostly stress, though, because overall I have a very healthy diet.

You're right about not touching your face! It causes the bacteria to spread ^_^

Acne is something millions of people suffer from all over the world everyday! And they DO try to deal with it! But their self esteem gets shot down

This is very true. Acne is something that is hard to live with and greatly affects a person's self-esteem. We are blessed to see it as something to 1) humble us, and 2) offer up (especially when it's very painful physically). But people need to empathize with it

Hey. I gotta say I have already been there and done almost exactly what you have done, the retin-A, the antibiotics (which give you a permanantly sour stomach in my case) the creams, the medicated soaps, the natural treatment......
everything. The worse was that both my face and back broke out in both large swollen purple and small rashy pimples. And it seemed everything made it worse. I know where you are you have my prayers, Acne really smells of elderberries.

My advice is to keep trying, everyone's skin is different, the thing that works on one person may not work on another. You just need to figure out what works for you.

If you do not feel comfortable with going on the pill, then don't do it. Don't compromise your values. Go to a Doctor that trusts you and does not beleive in birth control, they are out there.

Thanks

I have it on my back as well. It often bleeds, but is not as painful as it was a couple of years ago. For a while I couldn't even sleep on my back... It's just very inconvenient at this point. Anyway, the prayers are greatly appreciated. I think you're absolutely right- what works for one person will not work for everyone. I know people who swear by Proactiv, but it just made my skin worse. So it's important to find the balance and know your own skin I think.

I am actually on a combo of tretinoin and minocycline at the moment and they seem to be helping... :ninja:

I think my brother took minocycline...which seemed to help a little, but then he got the hives, and obviously couldn't take it anymore.

I have had kind of bad skin since grade school.. I've found it hard to deal with sometimes, but I haven't taken any drastic measures. I started using Proactiv, and I think my skin built up a resistance to it. I switched to a store brand system like it, my face cleared up, then it kind of stopped. I started using Proactiv again, which works on and off. Also, I just got a flyer today for a "stronger" Proactiv system that I might look into.

Also, I hear the Pill can be good, but it also has many side affects. I never want to do that to my body..

Accutane is a serious high risk drug.
Know what you are getting into before taking it,
Not only are there serious risks of birth defects (hence the pill) but also there has been research that points to possible psychiatric links to depression and suicide. The FDA just strengthed and required relabeling of the drug this past August.
http://www.fda.gov/cder/drug/infopage/accutane/default.htm

This second website is a pamphlet on Accutane.
http://accutane.poweradvocates.com/fda_acc...e_warnings.html

Personally, I would be a lot more worried about the effects of Accutane than the side effects of the pill.

Try the zeno! (sorry I gave the wrong site address!--thanks Trish!)

It is worth a try, it is non-invasive, realatively inexpensive, and might be what you need. They also guarantee it, so if it doesn't work, send it back!
