cathoholic_anonymous
This is something I have often wondered about. In Britain the highest number of abuse cases occur in the teaching profession, quickly followed by the medical profession. A disturbing amount of abuse is also carried out by people within the child's family. I never knew how sick-minded some parents and relations could be until one of my friends was placed in psychiatric care along with several other girls who had also been sexually abused by family and supposed friends. Yet no one emblazons this all over the front page of the newspaper. Perhaps it is because people have higher expectations of the clergy than they do of 'ordinary' people.
As they should, I think. Yes, priests are human, but they are also wise in the ways of the Lord. With greater knowledge comes greater responsibility. BUT That doesn't mean we should crucify them for sinning.
Socrates
Perhaps it is because people have higher expectations of the clergy than they do of 'ordinary' people.
I don't think so - it's because the media for the most part has a heavy anti-religious (anti-Catholic especially) bias. The media sees stories of molester priests as an ideal way to tear down the Church, while "education," particularly tax-funded public education, is a sacred cow of the liberal media. This said, I still believe (contrary to the beliefs of some Catholics) that any molester priest ought to be immediately removed and handed over to the law on first offense. Such behavior by anyone, especially by a priest of God, is an abominable crime which ought not be tolerated.
cmotherofpirl
I think all the teachers should get the same sentences as the priests do, not just a slap on the wrist and a "naughty naughty"
ardillacid
What exactly is the time frame on this, I didn't see any in the article.
Jesus_lol
well, with preists its because they are in a position of much greater power. that would be why people decry them more. which is more convincing to a child? "do this and you get an A" or "do this and i might tell god to let you in heaven" tis a sad time that we live in.
Joey1976
5 Million teacher abuse cases!!! wow. How does that compare to the Priest cases? What are the numbers for the Priest abuse in the US?
Lterrebrood
That was heavy. I didn't even make it through the whole article. Why do people let kids suffer like that? The government says kids have to go to school, but that should be a safe place, not a place where they can potentially develop relationships with their teachers. I also agree that these types of acts do not receieve as much media attention as they demand. They are also wayy under investigated and prosecuted and what not. As you can see, I'm very opinionated on this...
If you choose to look at the cause of the left from a conspiratorial angle, the teaching profession is one of their most effective means of ensuring their ideology survives, therefore, give more money to "education" and turn a blind eye to the fact that public education is failing and the teachers are predators. avemaria40
That's it, when I have kids, they will be homeschooled.
Red Knight
My wife and I have been discussing the schooling of our children. I am trying to convince her that we should homeschool. I am a product of the public school system and I LOATHE it. What I believe saved me from the leftist drivel was the fact that my family moved a lot and therefore, my best friends were my family, as it should be.
