Laudate_Dominum
I'm just wondering because I'm thinking of writing a tract on Our Lady and I was hoping to get some feedback on issues to focus on. Thank you!!
willguy
I would say IC because a lot of Protestants think that the Immaculate Conception is Jesus' conception instead of Mary's. Secondly is the "Mother of God" because people think that we are saying that Mary created the divine aspect of Jesus or that Jesus had a beginning. Brother Adam
I'd say the IC, but touch on all of it :)
Norseman82
There is a biggie that's not on the list - Mediatrix.
Sojourner
Yeah, I would say I hear more about Mediatrix or Co-redemptrix than any of those you've mentioned, although people in general don't really understand much of any of these.
Brother Adam
Is this Mediatrix now an official dogma of the church? I admit I don't understand alot about it. How would you explain this doctrine to someone like me?
Jake Huether
Of those listed, the IC. Mary is Soooo! Cool. I can't wait to meet her. If I "finish the race". ;)

Seatbelt Blue
Neither mediatrix or co-redemptrix are doctrine. Frankly, I'm glad, because, from what I understand of them, I can't accept them.
M.SIGGA
I voted for Assumption, but it's more of people flat out not believing that it really happened.

Laudate_Dominum
There is a biggie that's not on the list - Mediatrix. I don't have that on the list because it's not a dogma. It is however a definitive doctrine of the Catholic Church meaning it has been officially taught by the ordinary magisterium and is official Church teaching. It is the level just below dogma. We cannot in good faith deny definitive doctrines of the Church so it is sad that some "Catholic" theologians in the last 40 years have challenged this doctrine. It was a big topic of discussion in the Church prior to the Council but because of movements in the Church (I'd say primarily the ecumenical movement) it's been sidelined in mainstream theology and often attacked. The doctrine is most accurately described as the doctrine of Mary's Maternal Mediation. This doctrine has three aspects: Co-Redemptrix, Mediatrix of All Grace, and Advocate. Actually during the early sessions of the second Vatican Council this doctrine was much discussed and the Bishops actually voted in favor of proclaiming aspects of this teaching as dogma but as the years went along things changed and the focus of the council became more ecumenical. The section of Lumen Gentium on Our Lady includes the different aspects of this doctrine. I will explain this doctrine in more detail in a few, I just have to go do something right now so I don't have time... See you later.

Laudate_Dominum
I'm going to start a new thread to discuss the doctrine of Mary's Maternal Mediation - Co-Redemptrix, Mediatrix of All Grace and Advocate. Peace
