Ash Wednesday
I found this movie on youtube originally broadcast on the Discovery Channel. It is a true story about a Catholic family from upstate New York. One of their children was stricken with cancer, so they had to move to Connecticut where they were giving their son treatment at a special hospital there. They found a very large home at a reasonable price. Why was the home surprisingly cheap to rent? It was an old funeral home. And it turned out to be haunted by a demon that would literally make the family's life a living hell. This movie recounts the ordeal they went through. Not only having a child with cancer -- but living in a house with a demon. The demon started out preying on the weakest and most vulnerable of the family -- the son with cancer. It was their faith that brought them through it all -- all the way to the climax of the story where the Church sanctioned and performed an exorcism. It starts here and has 10 segments in total. Segment 9 is the most powerful part if you don't feel like watching it all. Though I may wait when someone else comes home later, so I'm not the only one in this large house by myself. It's creepy being in a large house, can't keep your eye on everything... xTrishaxLynnx
I think I had seen parts of this a few years ago, but got too creeped out and changed it. Now I remember why I'm so scared of shower curtains and walk-in freezers (I use to be so afraid when I had to go into the ones at Dunkin Donuts when I worked there). I watched the whole thing this time, and it's actually not that bad after seeing the Exorcism of Emily Rose.
Brother Adam
I can't watch any of those movies. I can't even watch the old Exorcist movie. About all I can handle is the 30 second bunny version, but that's because of circumstances in my own life that I've gone through.

The first time I saw it, I was only 12. I laughed during some of it (the bed shaking violently) but I defintely didnt get a lot of sleep in the following week or so. Paladin D
I can't watch any of those movies. I believe I've felt the presence of demon(s) at least twice, it's a horrible feeling and never wish it on anyone. I can remember one of the accounts very vividly This happened back in Wilmington, DE. Not exactly sure how old I was, judging by the setup of the room (we switched around furniture and bedrooms several times) I was probally 8 or 10 years old. I was laying down inside a sleeping bag on my brothers' floor, it was the three of us. Of course they have fallen asleep and for some reason I was still up, while my parents were sleeping in the next room. Don't ask me how I could've been so sure but, let's just say that after a while you can tell if one of your own family members is up and about, they make their own sound, movement pattern, and alike (so I know they were all out). I was laying down away from the bedroom door, about to fall asleep, till I heard something enter the room. Of course with my head on the floor, I could hear the footsteps precisely. It took only two steps, and stopped. Knowing that my entire family was preoccupied in dreamland, I immediately knew it was either a stranger, or some *thing*. Of course having a Christian upbringing, and believing in the existance of angels and demons, I had a strong feeling it was either of the two. Remembering that angels do not strike unnecessary fear, but make aware of their presence and reassure of their intentions from God, I came to the conclusion it must've been a demon of some sort. I was terrified, started sweating, and bravely whispered "Hello?", hoping it was either my mom or dad that came in to check on us..... but there was no response. This pretty much reassured my previous inclinations that it was something evil, I just had the gut feeling. Not including the fact all of my hairs were standing straight up (which with me, only ever happens if something evil is in the room), and I had a strange wave of heat right under my skin, which made it worse. After a few more moments, it took another two steps towards me. I could hear it behind me, I listened carefully for any type of breathing, but there wasn't any. I was praying to God in my mind, begging Him to protect me and make this thing go away. I had zero courage to turn around to get a visual confirmation, or speak another word, not even to try to verbally wake up my brothers who were in the same room asleep. This all started around 1am I believe, it was very late past my bedtime. I stood awake throughout the entire night till 6-8am, when my parents started waking up. At this time, I then slowly turned around to look behind me, and nothing was there. I am sincerely convinced it was a demonic presence, it was most certainly not my imagination. Due to this and other encounters which may or may not have been legit, I have a hard time watching programs that deal with demonic forces. EDIT: I personally believe the use of spiritual warfare isn't stressed that much these days in our parishes. Of course there is mention of prayer as a weapon against evil, but it tends to end on that note. I wish there were more priests that stressed this aspect of our Christian/Catholic walk, while at the sametime not crossing over the boundary that separates awareness from paranoia. We should be made aware and taught what to do, but do not give full attention on demonology. Edited May 5, 2007 by Paladin D
Ash Wednesday
Sacramentals, sacramentals, sacramentals. I'm a big fan of sacramentals. Scapulars, rosaries and holy water. I also think it's good to get your home dwelling blessed by a priest. I did that in an apartment building I lived in that was once an old medical clinic and reportedly haunted. I wasn't interested in having any encounters with anything. I also set up a small altar with images of the Lord and Our Lady, and religious candles too. I also lived almost directly above a Planned Parenthood office. I'm pretty boring to the demonic -- for the most part they aren't interested in bothering me, and that is just fine. I would just tell them to go to hell anyway. Edited May 5, 2007 by Ash Wednesday

Ash Wednesday
I think it's because a lot of haunted houses are old, and older houses generally were larger -- because they were owned by larger families. And generally the cities and towns were less crowded.
Era Might
Paladin, I had a similar experience once. I was sleeping on the couch in the living room, and everyone was in their own room sleeping. There were some keys on the table, and I heard them shake. There was nothing that could have made them shake, not that I know of. I was struck with terror, I really thought something or somebody shook them, and I knew that everyone was asleep. I was the only one in there. I was laying with my back away from the table, and I literally couldn't bring myself to turn around. I was terrified. I didn't sleep without the television on for a while. I always used to say we had ghosts in that apartment. My mother said it was just my grandmother saying hello. Even now I often get the feeling that I'm not alone. When I get paranoid I get up and force myself to look around. If there is something there then I'd rather see it face to face and scare it off.
