Sylvia Browne

Okay, I need some help here. My mom has been into this false prophet for a few years now. I have been wanting to tell you PMers about this for a while so I can get some apologetics help or something but I don't really know everything she says on TV and in her books cause I pay attention to none, but just today my mom said she prayed to "Mother God" *Shudder* for a large amount of money and she got it, plus a little more. Now don't get me wrong, I don't believe, but could you tell me something to shoot down this idea of a mother God, reincarnation, aliens that have visited earth, other lives and other outrageous nonsense? (I'm hoping some people have heard of her). Okay big run on sentence here... Umm... I'll come up with more questions later. I just wanted to get this out here. Help me :sadder: :ohno:

I believe Sylvia Browne is the "clairvoyant" whom Montel Williams has on his show annually to give predictions about the coming year. I know, now I have revealed that I am a loser who watches Montel when she gets weekdays off. But anyway, I remember how much she annoyed me because on the show they always made a big deal about the things she was right about, for instance, forecasts with the stock market. One year I saw her episode and she predicted that the Holy Father (then John Paul II) would die that year and would be replaced by a three-branch Vatican government, much like we have in the US.

I made a note to myself about that, just to see if would come true. After all, if she's going be given credit for picking good stocks, she should be right about a "big deal" like a change in Popes, shouldn't she?

Well, needless to say John Paul of blessed memory endured for several years after that, and we got Papa Benedetto after him. You might point that and other incidents out to your mom. Why is Ms. Browne only accurate some of the time? If her revelations and "connection" to the spirit world are genuine, shouldn't her predictions always work out? Perhaps this will help your mom see that the times when she is accurate are simply circumstantial, and that the other pseudo-religious nonsense she peddles is equally silly.

Thanks for the help Maggie. I didn't know that. So basically she predicted something about the Pope and the Vatican and it never came true? I'll keep that in mind. Any idea what year this was? It sounds like in 2002 I guess. Anywho thanks again.

People who make these kinds of "predictions" are very clever. The person asking for answers usually GIVES the answers without even knowing it! There was someone on TV a good while back who explained it in detail but I can't remember it all. It had something to do with the clairivoyant using letters of common first names and letting the person supply the family member's name. Also it's not hard to pull out a couple of common diseases and again let the person supply the answers. And on and on. They can also make broad predictions [like with money] that can apply to many people instead of just one particular person. Next time, watch how clever they do these things.

Anyway, these people are also fooling with darkness, something thatopens their souls up to an evil.

Remember Shawn Hornbeck, the Missouri boy who was missing for 4 years before he was found alive? Well, some time prior to his discovery, his parents appeared on the Montel Williams show, and Sylvia Browne told them he was dead and buried in a shallow grave somewhere. We all know that turned out to be a load of horse-hockey!

The reason so many people get sucked into this junk is because some of it IS true. Satan is very good at being tricky...the half truths and whole lies that Sylvia Browne spews out are no where close to the TRUTH of Jesus Christ. Sylvia Brown is well meaning but very misguided as are most people involved with new age stuff. As well meaning as she may be, however, what she is doing is still being led by satanic/ demonic influences whether she thinks so or not. Your best bet is to stear clear of that stuff. A good book to check out about this stuff is Ransomed From Darkness by Moira Noonan. She was involved with all that new age/ aliens/ psycic stuff and had an amazing conversion and became Catholic. I would highly recommend it especially as a gift for anyone you know who is starting to get into all that stuff.

God Bless

So after reading this thread, I have a question to ask. Is it a sin to be making predictions (never mind them being fake). It's like playing God, right?
