Old_Joe
Yes they did kateri. When the Turks conquered the city of Constantinople (now Istanbul), they converted it to a mosque. Since the Muslims are iconoclasts, they covered up all of the mosaics in the Hagia Sophia. It has since been restored several different times including removing all of the plaster covering the mosaics and is now a museum. kateri05
oh so its not a mosque anymore? its so sad that it got turned into a museum though makes you wonder if the building "misses" the presence of Christ? don't know if that makes sense to anyone else..... Mercy me
I was thinking about it and I am not sure that I would list only churches although some places have been converted into churches like the church of the holy Sepulcher. There are some truely amazing places in France like Mont Michel, Chartes, Sacre Coer just to name a few. La Sagrada Familia is amazing and I can't ever seem to tire of looking at it. I like Our Lady of Lujan, too. What about Mary's house? There are just too many choices to narrow it down.
