actually its no longer a Mosque either but a museum
-916 years as a church and 477 years as a mosque, Hagia Sophia was converted into a pay for entry museum, in 1934 on Ataturk's orders, as it remains today. Between 1930 and 1935 the whitewash on the walls was cleaned to reveal mosaics, which are among the most important examples of Byzantine art.

Archbishop Quigley Preparatory Seminary chapel, Chicago, IL. Although the school closed last month :sadder: :sadder: , the chapel, which is modelled after the St. Chapelle chapel in France, will be preserved:

1) Full view of chapel looking forward:

2) Rose window/choir loft (partially obscured by lamp):

3) The altar:

(When I saw the tapestry on the left in person at one of the farewell masses in March, I dubbed it "Our Lady of the Klingon Homeworld").

4) One of the windows up close:

5) A view from the outside:

It really is too bad that the apartment building next door blocked the natural sunlight for the windows above the altar.
The Vatican Basilica (St. Peter's)
The Lateran Basilica (St. John Lateran)
The Liberian Basilica (St. Mary Major)
The Basilica of St. Paul Without-the-Walls
The Basilica of St. Sophia in Constantinople (Agia Sophia)
The Basilica of St. Mark in Venice
The Church of the Holy Sepulcher
this except i'd put Assisi (as a whole) and that one seaside monastery in France (can't remember the name) as the last two...

Do you mean Mont St. Michel which is on an island off France?

I am still not convinced that with the list limited to just 7 wonders of the Catholic world that all would be churches. Buildings are fine but the Tilma of Juan Diego clearly has to be on the list.

let_go_let_God

I still say start with 700 and then lets narrow down to 70 then lets see if we can make it to 7.

God bless-

This is wonderful! I look in awe at it's beauty... and I can pretty much hear the sacred music just by looking at it. It is too bad that the sunlight is obstructed by a tall structure.

Oh my goodness I'd have to do some serious thinking to come up with my list. I have been to several places that I would put on the list, including an unknown church in Spain that was magnificent. Also I've been to Chartres. The Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament would certainly be on it, and St. Joseph's in Montreal though I've not been there :)
