Mary's Knight, La Posted February 4, 2004 Share Posted February 4, 2004 i love linux but all my games are windows and i don't feel like trying to get w.i.n.e. working too painful but i use it to test my perl scripts and stuff for websites thinking about practicing configuring it to do different types of serving. i love the stability but win XP is almost as good in that department. btw if anyone reading this has become/is really good at configuring w.i.n.e. and running programs using it then PM me quick lol Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
CatholicAndFanatical Posted February 4, 2004 Share Posted February 4, 2004 I havent updated my Linux in a long while, I still have on one partition of my computer Madrake 6.0 lol I like it, its good for alot of things server wise, but desktop wise I dont see it much use. Server-wise its great because of the way it utilizes the processor, making it a faster OS than any Windows box. wanna slow the fastest system in the world down? install Windows :D But yea, I use it sometimes. But just for play. I hate Microsoft, cant trust them as far as I can throw em. but without them I wouldnt have a career. So im greatful for that. ironmonk Posted February 4, 2004 Share Posted February 4, 2004 I've used Linux. Linux is lame. It's not good for your average office worker. It's great if you want to customize everything under the sun, have few software choices, have driver issues, hack, etc... It is not user friendly. Any office that tried to change from Windows to Linux would drown in the cost of training people to get use to it, and having to support it. People have a hard enough time using Windows, put Linux in front of them and you'll cut productivity more than half. Linux is the Martin Luther of the computer world... It's Damian from the movie The Omen... Not to mention, the fonts are not WYSIWYG... Something looks bad on the screen but prints nicely, then you've got something that looks good on the screen but prints bad.... I like speed when working, compatability, plug n play, etc... I use Windows at home, mostly for games and other software that I can't get on Linux, especially desktop companions to programs I have on my Sony Clie... ironmonk Posted February 4, 2004 Share Posted February 4, 2004 Windows XP is fast, faster than all the other Window's OSes... if the computers are slow, something is wrong with the setups or you've got spy ware on your PC's. If people are able to load stuff on their PC, like, webshots, hotbar, yahoo bar, etc... then that is what is slowing them down. You can get a free program to check for the garbage... http://www.Lavasoft.de Download Ad-aware, the freebie version, follow the instructions and run it, you'll be amazed at what all it finds.
