Era Might
There is going to be a Latin Mass this Sunday. They also have some cool things on display. There are two mitres worn by Pope Paul VI, a white cassock worn by Pope John XXIII, an illustrated Latin Missal (like they made in the middle ages, but I don't know when it was made), and an old Latin breviary used by St. Luigi Orione. Thy Geekdom Come
There is going to be a Latin Mass this Sunday. Brigid
ah wow! I wish my parish would do that. though they would have to make some changes... it's really not designed for that at all. but I'm sure they could make it work.
Lil Red
I walk into my Church today, and from the side I notice that there is a long rail across the front of the sanctuary. That was a shock in itself. Then I walk around and get the full view, and there's an entire high altar! With the tabernacle, and those six high candles (I don't know if there's a special name for them). Quite the change. It looks really beautiful. I don't know if they made it because of the motu proprio, or if they were planning on doing it anyway. Hopefully they plan on celebrating the Forma Extraordinaria!
+J.M.J.+ woah, old thread, but still cool

let_go_let_God
Excuse my limited knowledge in all this, but what exactly is a High Altar? God bless- LGLG
Era Might
I never did get around to taking pictures, but the shrine website has a virtual tour. Here is the link to the full tour: http://www.donorioneusa.org/madonna/tour001.htm Here is the area behind the altar. I'm not sure if it is a high altar. It may just be a structure to house the tabernacle. I haven't seen it used as an altar since it was built. But whatever it is, it's beautiful, and it restores the tabernacle to the center of the sanctuary: http://www.donorioneusa.org/madonna/tour13.htm Here is a larger view of the sanctuary, which has three large mosaics (all the art around the Church is in the form of mosaics): http://www.donorioneusa.org/madonna/tour10.htm Here is a view of one side of the Church, where there are individual rooms with mosaics and statues. The tabernacle used to be housed in the room farthest to the left in the picture, until it was moved to the sanctuary: http://www.donorioneusa.org/madonna/tour9.htm Here are the Papal vestments I mentioned: http://www.donorioneusa.org/madonna/tour5.htm
