i very much listen to arabic music. my favourites are Natacha Atlas and Faudel.
other artists i really like are MC Solaar, Andrea Adams-Frey and Christina Stürmer.

there are artists where i really the style of music, but which i don't really listen to because i find their lyrics and lifestyle not compatible with what i cherish. in this category would be Missy Elliott, 50Cent. i also like Pink, but i hate her using the f-word so much.

ah yeah, i also sometimes like listening to Will Smith.

Yes, I understand. I battle with this myself as I might really like the music, etc, but some of the content is questionable at best.

Thanks for your reply. :)

Farsight one

I mostly listen to the artists that never "sold out"(I don't mean offense by that, hence the quotes). This means that they're not as popular as others.

Dispatch
Guster
Holiday
The Format
O.A.R.
Flyleaf
Flogging Molly

Those are some of my favorites, but I've got a lot more that I like. I'm just no where near my computer right now, so...

you know, i am surprised by how much i really don't miss the music that i quit listening to b/c of content or artist's lifestyle. guess that's God's grace! many thanks to the great indie Catholic/Christian artists who are filling in the gap!

I can listen to and enjoy most types of music. On my mp3 player I have Eastern European folk music, AC/DC, and everything in between. I have a special spot for cheesy 80s hair metal and choral music. I'm a rock girl at heart, with blues rock being my absolute favorite. My list is a mix of "big" names and indie artists.

Rock/Punk:
Allman Brothers Band
The Rolling Stones
The Drive-By Truckers
Green Day
The Dropkick Murphys
Deep Purple/Rainbow
Led Zeppelin
assorted goofy Van Halen love ballads

Folk/Latin:
The Duhks
The Wailin' Jennys
Ozomatli
Kitka
Leela Gilday

Orchestral:
Holst
Stravinsky
Vivaldi
"Master and Commander" soundtrack

I've got a ranged palette as well:

Blues/Jazz
BB King
Louis "Pops" Armstrong
Benny Goodman and his Orchestra.
(and others)

Roc
Rolling Stones
Led Zeplin
Boston

Classical/Boroque/Romantic
Unchronolically.....
Bach
Vivaldi
Beethoven
Mozart
(and others)

Celtic/Folk
Leahy
Natalie McMaster
Celtic Spring
Mark Sullivan

Other
Choral Music (polyphony, hymns)
Traditional music from the Republic of Georgia (The group I listen to is called Kavkasia)

As you can see, I like quite a bit. I'll listen to anything that is elaborate in some way. My beef with music today is the lack of "virtuosity" in playing, meaning there are some well planned solos that are rhythmic and have a range spanning at least an octave, and there are more than 2 chords in the song (and the bass player isn't just doing the "dundundundun" thing on one note through the whole song). I definitely don't like 2 chord songs with uberscreaming and inaudible lyrics. I like a variance of tone colour once and a while (most bands are just like 2 geetars and a bass and drums). I know some Prot Rock bands throw some extraordinary instruments in like cello or something and it gives that extra soul to the song...

Just to re-iterate my statement about good rock, this satirical Strongbad Email explains what I feel about some bands... hehe... And as for hair metal, I don't mind it, but I don't go out of my way for it... :P
