Ziggamafu
From Dave Armstrong's blog:
This is the Faith Database: Extraordinary One-Stop Catholic Resource Tuesday, November 13, 2007 ... Tim Cooper (whom I had the pleasure to meet in Steubenville this summer) and Jerry Suelzer have designed a terrific database on one CD, for Catholics (see their website). It has virtually every source a Catholic apologist or student could need or want, and super-convenient cross-referencing and search capabilities. Here is some of what it includes: 10 Bible translations (some require Internet access): RSV, KJV, NASB, NIV, ESV, WEB, NRSV, Young's, NAB, Douay 88 council documents from all 21 ecumenical councils 400 early Church writings 158 writings from the Doctors of the Church (especially St. Augustine, St. John Chrysostom, St. Athanasius, St. Ambrose, and St. Jerome) 74 books by Venerable John Henry Cardinal Newman 112 books by G.K. Chesterton 268 papal encyclicals and other writings The Catholic Encyclopedia (1913): over 12,000 entries Search capability for the Catechism of the Catholic Church and Code of Canon Law (Internet required) 100 Bible maps and over 4800 Christian images Easton's Bible Dictionary Fr. George Haydock's New Testament Commentary 100,000 reference Concordance Pope John Paul II's Theology of the Body Free monthly updates from the home website Dozens of other classics, including: St. Thomas Aquinas, Summa Theologica St. Francis de Sales, Introduction to the Devout Life St. Ignatius of Loyola, The Spiritual Exercises James Cardinal Gibbons, The Faith of Our Fathers St. John of the Cross, Ascent of Mount Carmel and Dark Night of the Soul St. Teresa of Ávila, The Interior Castle, The Life of St. Teresa of Jesus, and The Way of Perfection Thomas a Kempis, The Imitation of Christ St. Thérèse of Lisieux, Poems and The Story of a Soul Baltimore Catechism Philip Hughes, History of the Catholic Church Butler's Lives of the Saints, Volume 1 Works of St. Louis de Montfort, St. Catherine of Siena, St. Thomas More, Hilaire Belloc, John Bunyan, and Ronald Knox ... I strongly recommend Tim and Jerry's work. Please stop by and purchase This is the Faith Database for the ridiculously low price of $24.95 postpaid (and only $18.95 for group orders, students, educators, clergy and religious). You can also call to order, at (260) 413-7157.
The site is www.thisisthefaith.com You get monthly updates, new versions of the software, etc, for a full year for free. I downloaded it a few days ago. The UI is a bit clunky not all that intuitive but who cares? It is functional and hosts the most Catholic info I have ever seen packed into one program. Seriously, guys. At this price, it is a steal. This is a must own!
N/A Gone
Will they pay the cost of repairing my laptop for drooling? How do you think this compares to the "Harmony media" package?
Ziggamafu
Will they pay the cost of repairing my laptop for drooling? How do you think this compares to the "Harmony media" package?
I own both. Harmony Media definitely has a better UI, more intuitive and well-organized. However, as far as content goes, Welcome to the Catholic Church only has a handful of things that This is the Faith lacks (and, with the exception of Denzinger's Sources of Catholic Dogma, these are not terribly essential). This is the Faith, however, has most of what is in WTTCC plus much, much more. And whereas WTTCC is $100, TITF is only $19-25. I say TITF wins hands down. Way more bang for the buck. That said, it would be nice if TITF took a lesson from Harmony Media in presentation, organization of content, and the user interface. Also, I am in no way trying to rag on Harmony Media; I hope the continue to grow and succeed. But TITF offers a ton of content for an unbeatable deal - especially considering that you get very notable upgrades every month.
Thy Geekdom Come
Sweet. Welcome to the Catholic Church is just way too expensive. I'm such a nerd...I put a whole bunch of early Church documents on my phone...just in case.
thessalonian
"ridiculously low price of $24.95 " No kidding. With 8 kids it's in my ballpark! I have something on my Christmass list.
N/A Gone
I actually bought the WTTCC and the early fathers and the Catholic encyclopedia from them last year. I wonder if this offers anything different or if I am covered now. Honestly, I just use phatcatholic.blogspot for a resource for everything anyway. I would have bought it solely for digital versions of Newman's Apologia Pro Vita Sua, Chesterton's The Catholic Church and Conversion, and Gibbon's Faith of Our Fathers. Talk about an apologetics powerhouse! I'm all fan-boyish about this software because I want the work being done to expand it to continue.

Seven77
man...what about macs? WTTCC is for macs but Harmony adds "Has not been tested on the new Intel Macs and may not perform properly." most of the stuff is on the internet but i can see why purchasing these cds might be a good idea for some. Tim ("said guy") has thrown some pretty awesome additions into the suite. Do you like it? Oh, and about what to with WTTCC: keep it and use it; as I've said, it's easier to navigate and still (for the time being) has a few resources that the larger TITF lacks. N/A Gone
crazy bump, but...did they update the UI problems? Also, the website says some things "need to be online" to access. What exactly? I want the software so I can do homework not online, in order to not be distracted by the inter-web. Advice please?
SaintOlaf
The interface is still a little clumsy, not much has been done to really update that, but it's not all that bad once you get used to it. As far as things online, some of the Bible translations and some of the more widely known documents are simply linked to online, I suppose to save space for the rest of the program. 95% of the content is available readily without internet access however. I couldn't be more pleased with this software, especially for what I paid for it, definately worth it.
