salterrae
I used to read these, too! I remember that it was very popular when I was in the third grade back in '99. I didn't read them as much as I watched the TV show. I still remember that first episode. I still get that "man-that-smells of elderberries" feeling when I think about Tobias getting stuck as a hawk. He died?! I didn't remember that. My brother and I only owned two. He had the one with the ape in the elevator, and I believe I had the one with the Rhino. Aloysius
Tobias's "death" has been used a few times through the series to create great drama. Most effectively, at the end of the second book of the David Trilogy. So I just got finished re-reading the books and then reading for the first time where I left off all the way up to #48, in e-book format. Totally brought back so many memories and made me fall in love with the series all over again. Looks like the last five books will be intense, but since 49 and 54 aren't up as e-books yet, I'll have to wait. The ethical dillemas are ridiculous and fascinating... sometimes it seems as if this is a peice of fiction out of touch with Christian philosophy of inherent goodness, totally manichaeistic with entire species being evil by nature, yet then you find Cassie finding a bit of good in the yeerks, Jake coming to sympathy with the Howlers, and you recognize that the whole storyline just totally obscures the fact of the inherent goodness of all creatures. the tragedies like Jake's Brother, Marco's mom, Tobias's status as a nothlit, are really quite deep and compelling as well. anyway, I've got five more books to read to finish the series and get my 10 year old inner child off my back for totally abandoning this series which was a large obsession of much of my childhood. Aloysius
so I have all the animorphs e-books on my computer now... I really liked a lot about the ending though the final cliffhanger part I found a little disappointing, everything else about the ending was amazing... anyway, when I feel like vegging out with an easy read that's still entertaining, I sometimes re-read a book or two. haha, guilty pleasure. anyway, apparently, Scholastic is thinking about testing the waters, as it were, as to whether they could revive the series in any significant way. they're planning to re-release the books with new cover art according to this: http://www.hiracdelest.com/blog/?p=69 and this: http://www.hiracdelest.com/blog/?p=73 I must say, that nothing would make me more ecstatic than if they were to do a big budget Animorphs movie. like seriously, I don't think there's any other movie that would get me remotely as excited as if there was an animorphs movie, if I ever saw a trailer for one, I'd probably explode... and the news that Scholastic peoples are actually even uttering the word "animorph" after all these years gives me hope. especially if they're not just uttering the word, but actually planning to re-print them with new artwork... that's gotta means something. ... if they could do it well, an Animorphs movie would be the coolest thing in the world. Nihil Obstat
I remember those books. I had the first ten, and I read a lot from the library, but there were too many for me to really get into, it seemed.
Hilde
I read these when I was little, I remember books like the ones where one turned into a cat. I had two friends who read all the books and were totally hooked. I remember them making me seriously think there might be snails in my ears controlling my brain. Arpy
Of course, why else do you think you're converting to Catholicism?
KeenanParkerII
Dude I learned to read because of Animorphs! I read every book then read it again...and again, and then I read the Andalite Chronicles! The TV series sucked compared to the books though. I always used to wish I lived on an Andelite dome ship. It sounded so cool to travel through space in like a Garden of Eden. but yesss, very cool. x)

Aloysius
YESS!!! did you read the Hork Bajir Chronicles? Visser? there were certainly many things in the series that smelled of many elderberries... like the TV show, and I didn't really like the "megamorphs", the Helmacrons were kind of an annoying plot, and so was the whole oatmeal thing lol. I really really want to see the series re-imagined with a good budget.
KeenanParkerII
WOA, talk about memory jog. I completely forgot about them, but yes I did read the Hork Bajir Chronicles. I remember the book having an extraordinarily cool cover and wishing I had blades on my elbows too. I never got into the megamorphs. But I think they should definitely republish it. It's like a classic! Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam
I read all of them. They were great. Hork bajir Chronicles, Animorphs in the Time of the Dinosaurs, The Ellimist Chronicles, The Chronicles, Elfangor's Secret, Back to Before...all of them. Great. I was kinda upset that Cassie and Jake didn't end up together, but the way the others went out in the last book was awesome. "Ram 'em." Did anyone figure out what that monster "The One" was though on the other ship at the end of the book that had assimilated ax?
