Lisieux Flower
I have been a vegetarian for six years, and while I understand what you are saying, people like myself have problems with the way the animals are slaughtered, not because they are slaughtered.
I completely agree. I've seen pictures of how these animals are raised, and it's absolutely disgusting. I've been trying to go vegetarian, but I'm having difficulty finding vegetarian options that I like... Sarah_JC
I completely agree. I've seen pictures of how these animals are raised, and it's absolutely disgusting. I've been trying to go vegetarian, but I'm having difficulty finding vegetarian options that I like...
I make a mean chili with kidney beans and frozen corn, and some veggies (canned tomatoes, green pepper, whatever you like) Great for a Friday get-together - some non-vegetarians are terrified of tofu. Basically if you combine one serving of legumes (beans/peanuts/lentils) with one serving of whole grain (rice/whole grain bread/corn) - you'll get a complete protein. I find most meat alternatives taste gross - Yves veggie dogs are good, and Presidents Choice veggie burgers rock... but stay away from Yves veggie bacon (and their "Bistro" burgers taste like turkey hash! odd...) And watch the B12! I was eating fortified breakfast cereal, and they stopped adding B12... I didn't notice and I got quite sick over time. But it's harder for me because I don't drink cow's milk. Also, I hear eggs aren't that good because there's something in them that blocks the B12 absorption. Sorry, I just like sharing information. Some of my friends get annoyed with me for it... I'm rambling out of love! God bless, Sarah
jkaands
PETA is over the top, but I don't think that it's a sin to be a member of it. There's also the Humane Society of the US, the World Society for the Protection of Animals and the International Fund for Animal Welfare. I belong to and support all of them. There are excellent reasons to be a vegetarian. It is much better for the planet to eat plant-based proteins. Eating meat, especially beef, is eating something that consumes a lot of valuable plant food such as corn to produce it, plant food that would be better used as (for corn) tortillas, corn-based cereals, cornmeal, etc. It's a much healthier diet, without cholesterol, carcinogens and chemicals. It's much lower in fat, calories and usually salt. It's a much cheaper diet. It's good discipline, especially for those considering religious life, which is all about taming the senses and desires of the body. If you can't go vegan, you can be a lacto-ovo vegetarian, eating milk products and eggs. Even if you eat meat, you can cut back. And all products should be chemical, additive and hormone free and free-range, if possible. This is for your own health, and means a better life for the hapless animal. Chickens are not offered the possibility to leave an enclosure until they are so used to it that an open door is terrifying and unused. It just sounds good to consumers. Read the "Omnivore Dilemma" and weep.
Red Knight
Why on earth would you want to associate with an organization that views humans as a cancer / virus on the earth? Besides, meat is good for you!
Nihil Obstat
PETA really went overboard this week. They actually used the bus beheading up here in Canada in an ad campaign. Comparing it to how humans treat animals. Unbelievable.
I know, it is truly a ridiculous campaign. Even CBC thought it was stupid! I think it was cbc I was watching...

The people who seem to be getting added to the category of "friends of the earth" is not looking too impressive these days!
