MissScripture
Well for me, I want a winter wedding and I am a student studying to be a teacher. I just plan on having the wedding when I have a break in the teaching, a long weekend or a week off or what not. It doesn't guarantee that we get an immediate honeymoon, but it does give us the ability to celebrate what it means to be married when we finally will. God bless- LGLG
That's sort of what we're doing. I'm going to still be in school, but I figured out that there will be a break in classes, so that I have time to get married, if not go on a honeymoon. Neither of my brothers had honeymoons, though, so *shrug*
OH boy oh boy! First off, Joey and I have our first meeting with our marriage prep priest tonight at 8pm. Prayers please! I'm so excited and so nervous!!!!! Also, I spent an hour and a half on the phone with my mom last night. I tried SO hard to tell her that Joey and I aren't making any decisions on places or times until after we meet with our priest, but she just kept pushing! At one point she even said that if Joey and i have the wedding out here, they won't come. She said they can't afford to because of airline prices, which she said are like $500 a ticket (not true, I checked and I'll be flying home in a month for $181), but that if we have the wedding in Va, she'll pay for Joey and I to fly out and for the priest to fly out, and for accommodations for the priest, and for the wedding and the reception and my dress. I said "Mom! If you can't pay to fly out to CO, then there's no way you can afford to pay for a wedding or our plane tickets!" but that didn't seem to sink in. I told Joey about the conversation, which involved a lot of crying and raised voices for other various reasons- the first real fight with my mom in years- and he said it sounds a lot like blackmail. ugh. Also, Joey's mom is trying to tell him that he promised her he wouldn't get married until after he graduated. Obviously, that's not true. He may have said he would probably not get married until then, but he wouldn't make a promise like that- he's not marrying his mom for goodness sake! So anyway, both of our moms are going a little nuts. We will be talking about all this to our priest tonight, so please pray for guidance and wisdom that we will be able to make the right decision. Joey would like to get married next January (09), and I would like to get married next August (08) although i'm ok with waiting until January- I just don't want to have to move in the middle of the winter in Colorado. I really don't think that my family would refuse to come to a Colorado wedding, but it certainly hurts to hear my mom say that. Anyway, how's everybody else'e preparation going? Anybody taken the FOCCUS yet? How was it?
Wow, I'm glad we haven't had any issues quite that major. At least not yet. The wedding will be at my home parish in my hometown, which may be difficult with me living six hours away, but my mom is there, and I think she'll be more than happy to help, after being pretty much kicked out of helping with my brother's wedding (by his mother-in-law). Originally, my dad wanted us to get married asap, when James was done with school. My mother agreed, and so we figured sometime early in 2009. James' mom didn't want us getting married until I was done with school, but that's three years from now (because of grad school). She also didn't want him moving up here straight-away, after he graduates, and was kind of refusing to accept that he wanted to --when we told her the date (June 2009) she said, "Oh...that means Sarah will still be in school." And I said, "Yes?" And she said, "Well, how do you know where James will be?" And I said, "Well, he darn well better be here!" And then she laughed, so while she's not overly excited about the idea, she'll live with it. Then, after my parents were all gung-ho about getting married as soon as possible, my mom suddenly went, "Well, maybe it would be less stressful if you wait a year." The extent of her reasoning was "It's a lot to do." Which wouldn't really change in the course of a year. I will still have school, my schedule in school is only going to get crazier, and neither of us want to be engaged more than 2 years, which my mother agrees with also, but still wanted us to wait a little longer. But we set the date now, and I'm sticking to it! Just saying it is fun! June 20, 2009! Hmm...I should see what's on the Church calendar for that day. I never even thought of it, because that's just what works out with my school schedule. MissScripture
CRAZY! That is the feast of St. Helen. And just yesterday, I told my mom, if it weren't for my 7th grade teacher, Sr. Helen (who passed away the summer after 7th grade), I wouldn't be where I am, today. Church Punk
I just found this thread and thought I would join in as Water Lilly and I are engaged and will be married July 18, 2009. So far we just have the Church and hall booked. Our mass will be in ordinary use however with our Tridentine Mass choir to provide a sung mass in Polyphonic and Gregorian Chant! I heard that there is also a string and horn orchestra that is available too, but might be pricey so we will see. I will keep you guys posted. Also for some marriage prep on our own, aside from retreats and classes, we are both read Christopher West, Good News about Sex and Marriage, this book is amazing! CoffeeCatholic
Ok- I think i forgot the important part. The Date is January 24th at 11am. The place? Holy Ghost Catholic Church in... Denver, CO. Now that we've made the decision, any advice for telling my mom? Oh, btw, did i mention that she threatened not to come if it wasn't in Virginia? Also, we signed up for Marriage prep classes, and the date is in stone at the church- we just have to bring a $200 deposit next time we meet with Father and talk to the receptionist lady. Evidentally her name is Mary, So when Father said "Great! Don't forget to bring the deposit and talk to Mary" I was like, whoa! Does he have that close a tie that we get a private audience with the BVM as part of marriage prep. and then I read the rest of the sentence "the office coordinator". Now to search for NFP classes. Gotta get those soon- I have a 40 day cycle, so I'll take a lot longer to figure out my charts then most of you 21-28 day cycle people.

And you should probably talk with the BV Mary, too. And good luck with the NFP classes. I already took them for medical reasons, but Roamin wants to take them again with me, and hey, never can learn too much about that stuff. Plus, it will be a lot less awkward this time, since I'll have someone to go with me and not be the only single person there!

Why does she need to know NFP? She's not married/getting married, so what is she planning on doing with this knowledge?" Okay, so people are probably a lot nicer in their heads than I give them credit for, and that probably says a lot more about me than about them, but I've had a lot of experiences with people thinking poorly of me, because they think I have a kid...or two...or six... C'mon, people! It's called A BABYSITTER! I have to say, it's nice to finally look old enough to have my own kids without people giving me dirty looks. How about, siblings? lol. I from the time I was twelve, people thought my brothers were my babies. how awkward is that? And when I was fourteen my youngest brother was born. All the time, I'd be holding him FOR MY MOM and people would come up to him and talk to him and say things like "oh, what a cute baby! does he sleep well at night?" So I would calmly say "You would have to ask our mom. Mum, is a he good sleeper?" lol. Talk about throwing someone off.

Afterwards, even though, after Gospel, I didn't have him for the rest of Mass, I had people asking my PARENTS when I'd had a baby! People who KNOW me! HELLO! A SIX MONTH OLD BABY DOES NOT JUST APPEAR! Not to mention, he looks just like his Mom, and they know HER, too, seeing as how she WAS our CHIOR DIRECTOR! *ahem* But I am over that. Ash Wednesday
Whoa. I'm getting married on Sept. 13, feast of John Chrysostom. Patron saint of orators. And I'm getting married at an oratory. But neither my fiance or I are exactly public speakers by trade. I guess both of us have taught at a university on occasion. But on the other hand, I had originally wanted the date to be the 20th, but my fiance insisted on an earlier date. Thus the compromise. Here's September 20: St. Eustace patron of Difficult situations Hunters Not that I'm superstitious or anything. I just thought that all was funny.
