Good point.

Yay! Wedding stuff!

I picked through the pages a bit and saw that there were all sorts of tangents. I'm just stoked to have found a wedding thread. :]

So, ahem -- my wedding date is October 18, 2008. My fiancee and I have been dating for just over 4 years (July 19 was our anniversary, cue the "aww"...) and he proposed to me Dec. 24 last year, using a scavenger hunt and a Scrabble board.

So, brides-to-be and brides-that-have-been... any questions/comments/so forth?

July 19 was our six-month mark! We didn't do anything special though.

As I said in the other thread, our near-official date is Jan. 2. I found a cool reception site in an old house about a block away from the church we'll marry in, and it's still available that date, so I'm crossing my fingers it all works out. I think having it so close to the holiday will be good, since many people will take that Friday off anyway so that will hopefully work out for people traveling.

After that the next big task is the guest list. He has a huge family (35 people counting parents, siblings, siblings' spouses, and nieces and nephews). We are wanting to keep it between 100 and 150, but I am thinking that will be impossible.

I also have a huge family. My parents, etc. makes for a grand total of... I lost count at 40. However, adding his family (which is much smaller) and our close friends / family friends has brought us to just about 100. It's definitely do-able! I think making the guest list is the most stressful part of any of the planning.

Wow, yeah, you know what I mean. He's having trouble figuring where to draw the line, because he has a large extended family too. His dad is one of 8 kids, and his mom is one of 7, so he has a ton of aunts, uncles, and cousins too. I have like 10 people in my family, all inclusive, so it is hard for me to wrap my mind around being part of such a big family.

One thing we've been talking about is how to keep children occupied during the reception. He has 16 nieces and nephews, most of whom are under the age of 8. We have been thinking about having activities for them, or at least something like coloring books or small toys or something.

I'm getting nervous. I feel like I'm in a weird situation.

I have two more years of law school left, my fiance could be done in may with her undergrad. They have this special program for her (Elementary Education) that you can graduate a semester early, do your student teaching as an internship and get paid full salary for it. So of course we want to do that, and if she makes it in the program we could make it work on that salary (my school is taken care of, thanks mom).

That all sounds great, but she won't find out until Jan. if she made it in the program. If we wait till then, the Church in her parish will probably be booked. But theres always the possibility she won't make it in the program. We could push the wedding back, but then we're looking at renting two apartments in Houston for 6 months to a year (not cheap in houston!!).

So we went ahead and booked the Church for June 09, hoping that she gets the internship. Her adviser says she should get it. But still I'm just worried a bit.

Got my "muslin" dress in the mail yesterday! no, not muslim.... :) A Muslin is a mock up of the real dress made in really cheap material (like muslin). My mom is making my dress in Virginia, and sending things back and forth in the mail- really nerve racking but wonderful. I'm going to get it fitted by my aunt hopefully this weekend and send it back so mom can begin the real thing. I sent her my material last week!!!! WOHOO!!!! Things are actually happening and I'm so excited!!!

and yes, we are blessed to have the OMVs!!!

JP-you should check out the Road to Cana website. It has a lot of information and even a DVD series on making yourself into a person that a future spouse will want to marry. We should all be preparing for our vocations, no matter what our station is, and if already in our vocation, I'd like to call it continuing education. Always required.
