Sadly not a great shock...I first heard about this from a friend who did... "English teaching" there. :( All the same, still never loses its horror, nor should it.

KnightofChrist

Let God arise, and let His enemies be scattered; let them also that hate Him flee before Him. But let the righteous be glad and rejoice before God: let them also be merry and joyful. He is a father of the fatherless, and defendeth the cause of the widows: even God in His holy habitation. He is the God that maketh men to be of one mind in a house: and bringeth the prisoners out of captivity. He is our God, even the God of whom cometh salvation: God is the Lord by whom we escape death.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

I don't really have any words for that.

The night before last I got into a discussion with a pro-choice advocate who has been *almost* convinced by my arguments in the past. However, he's still unable to conceive of day-old foeti as babies rather than as cells, and I ended up in floods of tears because he was very callous about the murdered children without meaning to be. I stopped reading the article halfway through as I seem to have lost my protective plating where such things are concerned.

Give him the article and watch him read it.

This urban legend has been on snopes for a while:

http://www.snopes.com/horrors/cannibal/fetus.asp

And About.com refutes it too:

http://urbanlegends.about.com/library/weekly/aa080601a.htm

Is it really true? I am not so sure.

Maybe they are referring to placentas, and there was a translation mistake.

Lifesite is a reputable Catholic news site posting from a newly published book.

I know!

That is why it is so strange...

I found this article, supposedly supporting what is stated (WARNING VERY GRAPHIC):

http://www.heretical.com/cannibal/china.html

But I also found the identical article on several other sites.

Well, if you read the snopes article while the photo of the man eating the fetus is faked, there's no real evidence that the Chinese don't eat there fetal remains. Apparently, this first came out in the 1990s when a US Congressman said he found reliable information that the Chinese were selling fetal remains to be eaten, and demanded President Clinton conduct an investigation. Nothing more was ever heard from it, and snopes only assumes that means the idea got debunked.

Since more than just one Congressman have come out and claimed this I would imagine snopes here is wrong.
