Pontifex
The day that the twin towers fell, people throughout our country and the world grieved with intensity. Why? Because thousands of people lost their lives, because it was a visible display of tragic violence. That Sunday we saw a record attendance in many parishes. Communion in my parish took an extra 20 minutes. We still grieve that day. Every 9/11 we remember what happened. We feel the pain of those we lost and we refuse to forget because their lives were so precious and just ripped away from them. The twin towers continue to fall EVERYDAY. Nobody seems to notice it. There are no headlines. In fact, there are headlines that say that it didn't happen. There are headlines that speak of it as a good thing, something that empowers people, especially women. As long as the twin towers continue to fall everyday in this country it will be my focus. I refuse to let the media, people around me, politicians, liberal feminists, or other Church leaders (which I've witnessed) tell me to focus in on other issues. "It's one issue among many." If everyday, the towers fell and we could see that happen literally it would be the only thing we could focus on until it was over! I'm trying to maintain that type of passionate feeling in regards to abortion. I am getting the sense that many Catholics are willing to forget the silent holocaust so that they can purchase food and gas at a better price. It frustrates me to no end! tinytherese
Don't give up friend. There is so much hope now. Just look at the media within the pat year or so. Pro-life films have comed out. "Bella" touched heart strings and won the people's choice award at the Toronto film festival and more importantly specifically saved the lives of two babies that Eduardo Verastegui, who played the main character came in contact with. "Juno" has received such popularity, particularly among young people and it won awards too. Even more recently,"Horton Hears a Who" made people of all ages laugh with one of its key messages that was, "A person's a person no matter how small" with a character who stopped at nothing to save countless tiny lives that no one else believed existed. It reminds me of tose who say that unborn babies are just "pieces of tissue." Also, look at the work of the Priests for Life and the ever growing popularity of the rather new order of the Sisters of Life. Thank you for your enlightening post about the constrasts between the horrific September 11th attacks and abortion, but this is not the end. God hasn't stopped fighting yet so we shouldn't either. cathoholic_anonymous
Father, I'm so moved and inspired by your dedication to the pro-life cause, and I pray that your parishioners will be too. A lot of us are pro-life only on certain days - when we get into a debate about abortion, euthanasia, or another urgent question; when we wear a slogan T-shirt; when we make a novena to Our Lady of Guadalupe. We lack the perserverence that is needed to make a real difference. You are one of the people who already knows how to persevere, and that's great because now you can teach us. Recently I've felt inspired to do more for the pro-life cause on a day-to-day basis. I've been thinking of ways to make this possible, as my days are so full that I couldn't possibly take on a commitment at a pregnancy crisis centre or anything like that. I was given the idea of offering up every act of caring for people whose lives are not valued, especially the unborn. At the beginning of the day I pray for the courage and the patience to care for everyone whom I meet, and at the end of the day I offer all the gestures of caring that I have made as a prayer for those lives - the unborn, their parents, the terminally ill, the elderly people whose care needs are written off as a waste of resources. It is simple but I believe that if all of us did it - especially those of us who are too busy to make a practical commitment - we would help more people than we ever realised. cathoholic_anonymous
And on a related note, could I please draw people's attention to an endeavour of the Sisters of the Gospel of Life in the UK? They have a programme to help women who aren't able to bear the financial costs of looking after a baby without help, and they would like some donations. Deb
Ditto from me too. I too am trying to figure out how I can play a more active part. I do adoration during Rachel's retreats and I activally talk to others to try and let them see the light of truth as to the horror that abortion and I pray but, there has to be more. This past weekend at church someone told me to check with Sisters of Life. That was the first time I had heard of them. Someone else suggested volunteering at Birthrite. So, I will begin my discernment on how the Lord wants me to work for him in this matter. We all need to do all we can.
Pontifex
It so good to hear that you all are looking for ways to be involved in the pro life movement both spiritually and physically. I agree that many good things are happening as a result and surely I'm not giving up at all. Blessings, P-Fex

Also, living in a country (Honduras) makes me appreciate pro-lifers even more because Latin America is really under attack with the abortion issue. As we know from Jp2 writings, that birth control and abortion are fruits of the same tree. I'll see what I can do to get you some information to pass out in your language. Archaeology cat
Thank you for writing that, Father. It's good to have such a reminder. And CA, good idea about offering up everything like that. My Rosary is usually dedicated to praying for an end to abortion & the truth to be known about that and contraceptives, too.
tinytherese
I've got a prayer card for spiritually adopting unborn babies. It was recommended by Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen. "Jesus, Mary, Joseph, I love you very much; I beg you to spare the life of the unborn child that I have spiritually adopted, and which is in danger of being aborted." Fidei Defensor
Father, I intend no disrespect. However, I am offended by your comparison of abortion to terrorist attacks. No matter how you feel about abortion, which for the record, I believe is a horrible sin on the head of our society, It is nothing more than extreme emotional appeal to compare it to a terrorist attack. I admire your fervor but I think even you know that it's a bit extreme to use that comparison. Gaining support by use of emotion is the tactic of the "horrid" liberals, stick to bringing people through love and compassion in Jesus.
