homeschoolmom
We want to let you know the general moderating tone of phatmass (as prescribed by d.USt). He has instructed us to take a hands-off approach and edit only where necessary-- basically to edit only when someone breaks the guidelines. To quote d.USt directly: "As for generally editing more, no, that's not the answer. Edit if it deserves a warning, multiple warnings equal a ban." We are not going to moderate 'rude' comments unless it breaks the guidelines. We are not here to be the 'language' police, nor do we want to be. Have we seen rude comments? Yes. But we have also seen members call that person out on their rude comments. There will be members whose style it is to be abrasive, to be insulting. There are other members whose tempers will flare because of another member being annoying or having a bad day or what have you. Please remember to review the guidelines from time to time. Report posts that violate the guidelines by hitting the report button in the lower left-hand corner of the post in question. When you make a report, please explain what guideline you believe is being violated. We hate to have to try to guess what it is you are trying to communicate. Please be patient while we review the report. Just because something goes unedited does not mean that it is not being addressed. And remember, just because something is reported does not mean it will be edited. Please avoid using common acronyms that contain vulgar language. Those will be edited. Also keep in mind that a rude comment is not necessarily a personal attack. Please do not use threads for your own personal off-topic dialogue. Most of you have the personal message feature if you wish to have an on-going back and forth conversation with someone. There is also the Lame Board for that kind of thing. Please help keep the other boards' threads on-topic by not going off on you own personal tangents. If a topic goes too far off topic, posts may be deleted. If you have been edited and warned, please take it graciously. We are doing the best that we can to be fair. If you truly feel you have been unjustly edited, please take it up via private message (or email if you are not allowed the pm feature) with the moderator who edited you. Then please be patient while we sort things out. Sometimes you will win, sometimes you will lose. "I was completely misunderstood and this is what I meant by that" could win. "I use this kind of language all the time" probably will not. Do not make it an issue all over the phorum. Even if you think it's funny, we don't. Remember-- each person can only see his or her own warn level. So in short, we each need to do our part as members of phatmass to help promote a better atmosphere: reminding each other to see another person as a child of God, not just a screen name. If we can do that, then we think the tone of phatmass will improve. God bless The Mods Be not overcome by evil, but overcome evil by good-- Romans 12:21 from Ephesians 4:29-32: No foul language should come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for needed edification, that it may impart grace to those who hear. And do not grieve the holy Spirit of God, with which you were sealed for the day of redemption. All bitterness, fury, anger, shouting, and reviling must be removed from you, along with all malice. (And) be kind to one another, compassionate, forgiving one another as God has forgiven you in Christ.

rachael
Negative Criticism of Other Religions A post or comment that negatively criticizes (as opposed to constructively criticizes) a different religion in a way that is harmful to open ecumenical dialogue. "The Church knows that she is joined in many ways to the baptized who are honored by the name of Christian, but do not profess the Catholic faith in its entirety or have not preserved unity or communion under the successor of Peter." Those "who believe in Christ and have been properly baptized are put in a certain, although imperfect, communion with the Catholic Church." - Catechism of the Catholic Church, 838
Question: Why isn't this rule enforced more? homeschoolmom
I guess another thing that is important to keep in mind is that we honestly do the best that we can. We don't always agree among ourselves and it often takes awhile to come to some sort of consensus on various issues.
StColette
Thank you HSmom I think another thing to point out is don't get angry with the mods if they don't see every single instance where a rule has been broken. The mods are very busy with work, family, and other things. They can't keep up with all the threads. If you see something that clearly breaks the guidelines then report it. Don't expect the mods to just "happen" upon that post and then get angry with them if they don't. They have busy lives and can't read every single post on Phatmass.
