Obama On Palin: " Lipstick On A Pig"

The American people are smart. And the Obama camp ran out of ideas, plus they have no message of substance; that's why they are resorting to juvenile tactics of "palin is a pig" and "putting down community organizers is racist" and "McCain is a liar."

Obama has nothing left to run on.

Obama hardly looks like a leader right now. 60 days to go. Obama is crawling to Bill Clinton on his hands and knees right now--literally. Obama is visiting Bill Clinton in his Harlem office this morning.
Amie Parnes reports from Lebanon, VA:

Obama poked fun of McCain and Palin's new "change" mantra.

"You can put lipstick on a pig," he said as the crowd cheered. "It's still a pig."

"You can wrap an old fish in a piece of paper called change. It's still gonna stink."

"We've had enough of the same old thing."

The crowd apparently took the "lipstick" line as a reference to Palin, who described the difference between a hockey mom and a pit bull in a single word: "lipstick."

We shouldn't be too precious about this. Politics is a dirty business. John McCain was slimed big time in 2000 by the Bush campaign, of all people, with allegations that his adopted Bangladeshi daughter was an illegitimate black baby, and his wife was outed for having a substance abuse problem. It would be great if politicians would stick to the issues but they don't, so let's not make anything more of this than what it is, which is the rough and tumble of a heated election campaign.

American people voted Bush into office... twice. But yeah considering the alternatives I guess this was the "smarter" choice. :(

Where's the outrage over the use of the words "uppity" and "boy" with reference to Obama? Certainly, the racist overtones implicit in those remarks are much more serious than the schoolyard taunt, "lipstick on a pig."

Pssssst... :secret: that's a misuse of the word literal. You actually used it figuratively. ;)
It's not as bad as when McCain blatantly lies about Obama's views, like when he says Obama will raise taxes on everyone. That's a lie, Obama has stated that he will lower taxes for 95% of Americans.
Candidates using the opposition's positions to gain momentum is standard campaign shtick. However, I would be interested in hearing the positions McCain supposedly lied about.

In regards to taxes:

The outrage is located next to the place where the outrage over Obama calling a female reporter "sweetie" is. Remember that one?

I would like to believe Obama did not mean what he said the way it's interpreted, but he does use subtlety to express what he really wants to say. He would look you in the eye and say you're a great guy while rubbing his forehead with his middle finger.

Outrage on *this* board. "Sweetie" was ignorant, and I hope Obama's wife had a word with him. I'd like to see some equal opportunity umbrage on *this* board, is all I'm sayin'.

Well that is wrong to say no doubt. The problem is most don't know about this news story, but more importantly Westmoreland is not running for president. Obama is, and has chosen to resort to name calling.

It doesn't as far as I know, but it does mean stuck up. The 'boy' comment, whilst it MAY have been said to speak of Obama young age, is not at all the smartest thing to say about a black man.

Why would you expect equal opportunity on this board? Members here have principles, and those principles form their opinions. Given this is "phatmass," don't be surprised if many people share the same principles. Most people are backing a candidate that as closely represents their values. That would be McCain/Palin. So why would you expect phatmass a place where Obama would receive equal treatment? Just as there are plenty of sites not giving McCain/Palin equal treatment and sticking by their candidates, many of this site's members are going to stand by their candidate.

In regards to equal treatment and Obama's unending string of gaffes (from a "master orator" no less), I think he is getting equal treatment in the political arena. Remember how the democrats constantly made fun of Quayle's gaffes? President Bush's gaffes? The democrats have made an art out of twisting and sound biting Bush's words. Now the tables turn and democrats cry "foul!" The democrats made this bed. They should lie in it.
Obama is calling Palin more than a pig, incase anyone has forgotten a lady pig is a called a s**t
hmm been around farm animals all of my life and never heard a female pig called that. We usually call them sows. My grandfather raised pigs for the pork industry and I never heard him refer to them as that. I looked up the use of that word for meaning a female pig and its definitely a new use, more urban slang than actually name

"Uppity" in the context of reference to an African-American by a congressional representative from Georgia can be interpreted as intended to evoke images of the South in which the term was used to refer to "negroes" who didn't know their place and who often ended up as "strange fruit."

Here's why: Republicans ≠ Catholic. As I've stated elsewhere, neither major US political party fully represents Catholic teaching. I also have "principles," including fairness and truth. The truth is, two weeks ago, nobody here was willing to touch McCain with a 10 foot pole. Now he's the Second Coming? As I noted above, name-calling is part of politics. Just because you support one candidate and are willing to look the other way when it's that candidate doing the name-calling doesn't make it right.
