Lil Red
+J.M.J.+ so share how it went today; how were the lines, did you get polled afterwards, etc. no lines for me, voting was quick and easy, and i did not get polled. funny story though: i vote at an elementary school, and there was a sign on this person's house that said: 'Rosa sat so Martin could walk so Obama could help our children to fly' (or something like that) i rolled my eyes as i thought, 'yeah, all the children he allows to be born' what's your story? homeschoolmom
Interesting little... poem... (that will probably become the new Pledge of Allegiance or something... I'M KIDDING!) I live about three blocks from our polling place (a school) and I was there and back in twenty minutes. Very quick line.
dominicansoul
Just spent my lunch voting. Long lines. Slow volunteers. One of them complimented my last name. She pronounced it perfectly, too... Had to wait even longer before one of the booths was free. Late back to work. Pollers asked questions, I refused to answer... ...told them my vote was private. I wasn't asked about the Presidential election, I was asked what I voted on the road bond in our county....things local... Huge sign in front of a house near the poll place said, "Obama/Biden for all Texans." And the state of Texas was in the center of the O of Obama. I had to laugh...that's not gonna work in this state! Maybe for a few poor suckers, but not the majority... Edited November 4, 2008 by dominicansoul
BG45
I voted early, but was supposed to work the polls today. When I went to training we were told "every alternate will work". Well, someone I called to have sign up as well who signed up after me worked; I am not...which makes me a bit testy. I have however, done a lot of homework, and took food to the food pantry; which was next door to a polling place. I did direct some lost people in there who were coming to the food pantry wondering where the voting booths were.
Excelsior1027
My voting station is right down the street, so it took me 10 minutes tops to go vote and get back home. There wasn't any line so I got right to a voting machine, and there were no pollsters (not that I would've told them anything anyway).
kujo
I completely intended to vote for Obama today at the polls. I had filled out my absentee ballot 2 weeks ago and voted for Obama, but, for one reason or another, didn't get up the motivation to mail it. Then I realized that I can vote at the poll station despite not being registered in the county I go to school in, I figured I'd go vote for him there. I went with my 4 roommates who are gung-ho for Obama. I stepped up to the booth and...just couldn't do it. I just couldn't get passed the number 3. 3 Justices. That next President could have the opportunity to nominate and appoint 3 justices to the Supreme Court. 3 justices who could bring this abortion atrocity to an end, or prolong it for the foreseeable future. I couldn't get passed it, and ended up voting for McCain. I walked out, told my roommates, who, though disappointed, understood where I was coming from and didn't give me too much scuff about it. On the other hand, I was kicked out of the polling station for asking to get the pan I forgot at my booth. And, when I stood outside to wait for the rest of my roommates to get done, I was told to move by a woman who told me "we want this place cleared of ruffians." I told her that I was a political science grad-student at UCF who was too tired to shave this morning, she laughed and said "Yeah. Okay. Could you please just move?" Pretty interesting stuff, right? missionseeker
and that's my election day story. And no, I did not do that. I just am a nerd and carry a camera at all times. Some days it pays off. Absentee ballot. No lines. Two overnight fees. Meh. I was amazed on campus today to see 100 people standing on the roof of the parking garage, yelling and raising Obama signs. Funny stuff.
HisChildForever
I only had one class today (I commute to campus) and on the way home I swung by my old high school to vote. I just got home ten minutes ago! Absolutely no lines, I just went in, gave my name, etc., and spent about fifteen seconds in the booth.
MissyP89
"Name, please?" ".....how do you spell that?" "P-i-WHAT?" The guy that was working when my mother went this morning had the P through Z book. We start with P. The man started at the BACK of the book. Um, okay. No problems, in and out. We go to the fire hall down the street.
kujo
I feel like I sold out today. I don't like McCain and don't think he'd be a better President. But he's pro-life...
missionseeker
I don't like either. I defintiely don't think Obama would be a better president, though. (not considering the prolife stuff WHICH if John McCain really was, he would not support stemcell research. )
CatholicAndFanatical
Kujo..I feel ya. I did the exact same thing. My wife and I were talking on our way to the voting stations and I talked to her about abortion and how Obama is for late term abortion. She mentioned that McCain was also for abortion...I was at a lose. As we were talking a good thought came to my head about the two candidates: 1) Even if McCain was pro-choice - he wouldnt set out to undo everything Bush has done for pro-life. I believe it would still stand and maybe even go farther for our cause. 2)If Obama gets in, rest assured he will reverse everything that has been done up until this point. My wife made the claim that Obama is too liberal to go in there wanting to change it. I agreed but countered that he may not go in wanting to change it, but one of his Democrat's will make that motion, and with Obama being pro-choice - it will go through. So I stood there in the voting booth wondering what I should do. I liked everything that Obama has said, except his abortion views. I think the more I thought about it the more I became scared. I thought about those video's I seen of kids singing praises to Obama and how this guy is really EVERYWHERE...it scares me...this isn't natural it seems. This guys talks WAY to well. He promises things that we as American's need. When was the last time a guy stood up there and said everything right? I can't think of a time. I cannot think of a time where the country was so messed up and then out from no where a guy pops up and offers a fix to our problems, and the fixes sounded so logical and good that it was too good to be true. I basically said a little prayer and I knew what I had to do. I voted for McCain...it really hurts to do so though. But only because of abortion. Let America suffer some more - as long as the innocent are dying less. Thats what happened in my world today. God bless. Mr.Cat
Went with my mother, she likes company when she goes out. I warned her that she went to the wrong precinct, and we did. We went to the Elementary School and a few of the students held the doors open and we went to the stage of the cafeteria. They checked our cards going in, directed us where to stand, then they put us to vote. My mother and I kept trying to see if my father had voted, him being dead, but with all the hype we were looking anyways. While voting, the announcements came on, instructed the students to respect the voters, to not mess with the signs, and so on. The polling operators were kind and welcoming. I remember being a child playing my violin on that stage, until the director told me I had no talent whatsoever. Good memories of childhood... Voted in all the elections and propositions, but abstained in one of the state elections. Funny enough I am trying to think if I accidentally marked the wrong box somehow, but I am sure I didn’t. Besides, the State of Texas goes Republican most of the time anyways. Hardly any lines when I went, it was about 3:00 PM (CST) when I voted. TotusTuusMaria
I voted at around 11:30. It was my first time to vote, and I got this great feeling when I pressed the little box beside McCain's name. No one polled me afterward. The line was long, but not crazy long. To go through the line, show my little forms, and vote took about 30-40 minutes. I was the campaign director for 40 Days in my city and the 40 Days for Life scripture verse is: "If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land." 2 Chronicles 7:14 So, anyway I went to vote at the church today (a black protestant church) and this verse was written on the gym wall (where everyone was voting). I thought that was so awesome. It was pretty shocking too because in our city the majority of African American people are voting for Obama, and most of the black churches wanted nothing to do with 40 Days for Life. So, just to see that in the room was awesome. Hopefully it will touch some people voting today. Kujo... I didn't know you had plans to vote for Obama. Sadness. That explains the post about him being a Christian. I am glad you didn't. Thanks be to God. Feel good about it... When the time comes as it surely will, when we face that awesome moment, the final judgment, I've often thought, as Fulton Sheen wrote, that it is a terrible moment of loneliness. You have no advocates, you are there alone standing before God and a terror will rip through your soul like nothing you can imagine. But I really think that those in the pro-life movement will not be alone. I think there will be a chorus of voices that have never been heard in this world but are heard beautifully and clearly in the next world and they will plead for everyone who has been in this movement. They will say to God, "Spare him because he loved us," and God will look at you and say not, "Did you succeed?" but "Did you try?" - Congressman Henry Hyde
