Ziggamafu
See, what we need to do is build a colossal "laser" and shoot a "laser beam" into the earth connecting Mexico to the States. We create a sea gap fifty miles wide between us. Problem. Solved.
CatherineM
The Rio Grande used to be so deep and wide, that steam boats could go all the way to El Paso. That was a much better barrier. We drain so much water out of the rivers that feed it now to funnel to things like fountains in Las Vegas, and suburbs in the desert, that it doesn't even make it all the way to the Gulf of Mexico anymore. It's just a mud flat at the end. We've kind of made Northern Mexico a desert, where they used to be able to grow food. That would make me mad if I'd had a farm there. We don't kill each others babies for no reason, oh wait we do.... Anyway, the Mexican government is at least a known quantity. Any coup or invading force in Mexico would pose a potential threat to American citizens especially if there was violence involved. If US intervention could nip the problem in the bud then there would be less loss of life than if nothing was done. Since one of the major roles of a government is to protect its populace it would be irresponsible of the US to just put its hands in its pockets and say "its mexico's problem". Madame Vengier
It's all the more reason why the US should have been pressuring Mexico to clean up its own house and look for progressive ways to stabilize its own economy, healthcare system, educational system and civilian workforce, rather than riding on the backs of American taxpayers. Fighting across our borders cannot be tolerated.
