foolishmortal
I won't see it as I did not watch the Beijing opening ceremony (not even later on Youtube). Both are a slap in the face of human rights. I sometimes wish someone would go to the UN and deface its charter with "Killers", but that would be against some commandment. I hope we have pro-life demonstrators ready with a big ol' wet blanket. I would not have supported Saul's Christian killing pursuit, or the Pharisees who appointed him, in hoping they may one day be converted. I want us all who voted for him to learn a hard lesson (nothing like a major disaster; just disappointment) from this. I say this that future good will come of it. God's Will comes before things we want for our communities when voting. Nothing supercedes that.

Nihil Obstat
They're playing the entire thing AT MY SCHOOl, which is supposedly with the Catholic board. You can go into one particular room and watch as much of it as you want during school hours. I'm disappointed, and boycotting. I'm going to sit somewhere else and read Evangelium Vitae. Half done so far.

MithLuin
Well, I work at a school, and we're bringing the entire student body into the auditorium to watch. Despite the fact that I certainly didn't vote for the guy, I approve of teaching the students good citizenship, and letting them witness historic events. Since the administration encouraged me to show the pope's mass in DC to my students last year, I do not see this decision as nefarious. Will Obama do anything to help stop abortions in this country? Sadly, no. Will he do anything to help the pro-life movement? That question requires more thought. The pro-life movement is based on the inherent dignity of all human persons, no matter how vulnerable. Certainly, the unborn, young infants, the critically ill - all these are very vulnerable. But so are accused terrorists, and he is going to stop the practice of using torture against prisoners. Even if this is not the most important of life issues, it does recognize the dignity of people most of us would like to forget about. So I do not think we can unequivocally say, with confidence, that he will do nothing to advance pro-life causes. Will he do any good for our country? I certainly hope so. We should keep him in our prayers. Even if we didn't vote for him, he is still our president. No one asks our military if they approve of the leader before asking them to salute him. We have to recognize legitimate authority, while still condemning wrong actions - just as the military is asked to respect rank, we ordinary citizens should, too. You don't get to ignore the instructions of a bishop just because you think he is a 'bad bishop.' Obama doesn't think he is killing babies. He thinks he is removing government interference from the private lives of women. He's wrong, of course, but I do not think all of his actions should be viewed through the lens of 'but he kills babies!'

I think he is unqualified to be POTUS, but I respect the office he holds. I am proud to watch the orderly transfer of power from one party to the next, the fact we have done it 43 times is amazing in itself, and in this world a miracle. May God change his heart.
