MC IMaGiNaZUN
First time I was flipped on hip hop, i was already distrustful of the media hype over puff daddy and master p back in 1997. The first time I heard the RZA of Wu Tang talk in the intro to Wu Tang Forever it got me thinking. Somehow, as a kid i remember run dmc, beastie boys, and tribe called quest. Hip Hop was becoming intelligent. Now almost twelve years later, it has degenerated into a morbid monstrosity. There were industry efforts to keep Jurassic 5 out of the hip hop market (if you read Akil's blog). Sometimes i think a racist industry likes to sell the rap image, because it portrays some of the most wicked and virulent images of black men, keeping them forever trapped in negative stereotypes. sorry don't get me started on a rant on hip hop. Sage Francis also does something similar to Common on his track Broken Wings on the album Personal Journals.
