Problem Getting To A Confirmandee's Confirmation

A good friend of mine asked me a while back to be his Confirmation sponser, and I agreed to do so, and so I've been looking into flights yesterday and today to try and make it to the Confirmation since I am 17 hours away from where he lives. Yesterday I found a flight that would work out perfectly for me, but then I called my mom to see if it would be alright with her (I can pay for it myself, and am planning on paying for it myself if I can go). My mom told me basically absolutely not because of the cost (the flight I found was $230 round trip) and saying that I can't just get up and go places whenever I have a whim to do so. My thought on this is that a Confirmation is more important than a simple whim and that it would be money well spent, even though I would only be there for a weekend so as not to miss any classes. Now I checked expedia again and the flight was gone, so I don't know what I can do now. Please pray that this can be resolved according to God's Will. To add to the drama, the Confirmation is Feb. 8, so I have less than 2 weeks to figure all of this out. Oh, and I'm away at college, hence why I need the flight to go, and I'm also semi confused on where following the directives of my parents falls now that I'm older.
