My husband has not cut his hair since August 2007...I gave up trying to get him to cut it a long time ago.

I agree that it has little or no relevance. :idontknow:[/quote]
I always forget you're a gal.

Mine is long - I wear it with bangs that go to the side and little swoopies on the side. It's getting a bit too long; it almost touches my shoulders when it's wet. I need to get it cut.
I like my hair, though. I'll probably wear it long through most of my early college years, and get it cut by the time I go off to med school.

Madame Vengier

I was hoping someone would post those passages b/c I'm not familiar with this issue at all. But I do know that Jewish men in the ancient cultures had long hair. Our Lord had long hair, we know this not only from facts of history (He being a devote Jew and all) but also from the Shroud of Turin and the Veil of Veronica. I read that, in keeping with the customs of Jewish men of the day, he would have worn his beard slightly parted in the middle and part of his hair braided in the back. Wish I could remember where I read that but it was in some research I did on the Shroud. As for today's world, I don't think one's hair has anything to do with spirituality and personally I think many men look awesome with long hair.

In the Old Testament the Nazarites (i.e., those men who were consecrated to the Lord) were not supposed to cut their hair.

Found the scripture: it is 1 Corinithians 11:14.

Just wanted to make it clear that I'm not prescribing anything for anyone! Just quoting the passage that people asked for.

Clearly, something is missing in the translation, or there is an error in interpretation, because we know as fact that in Jesus' day, men wore long hair and He himself wore long hair. So clearly, there is something off with the translation of that passage.

Thats what I was thinking...it seems odd long hair would be condemned before scissors. :lol_roll: j/k

I like the way it looks when a hat has been on their head all day!
The little curl at the ends!

"and when you can walk on water, you can grow your hair long, son!"

we can look to the Saints for the answer i think, specifically the priests, nuns, and religious brothers and sisters, who we are blessed to have as our holy examples..

some priests have really long hair, some don't. some nuns chop their hair when they join, some don't. some Franciscans shave their heads for many reasons: to not allow a source of vanity (worrying about how it may look), to be more simple (one less thing to cut/style), penance (cold), a sacrifice for God, a testament to faith for the world to see, etc.

so it depends on you. is it a possible obstacle to being the best person you can be, a holy child of God, a holy Saint that shines for the world to see? for some yes, for some, no.

I really don't think that God is going to judge you going to heaven or not based on how you wear your hair. I think He has bigger fish to fry.

Fish to fry...GET IT? Lent!
