Have you read the book?

I don't think it's about hate so much as it is about fanaticism and greed. I liken it to the recent movie Doubt in that the antagonist(s) are Catholic clergy, but it isn't so much an indictment on the Church as it is an indictment against those characters. While the usual Dan Brown "look-at-what-the-Church-did" stuff is there, I found it far less inflammatory than The Da Vinci in that a lot of it is far more documented than speculative.

Anyway, I think you should calm down a bit and don't worry so much. At least Tom Hanks isn't rocking that RIDICULOUS hairstyle! There may be hope yet!

You have your opinion and I have mine.
Dont tell me to calm down when the media attacks on my faith are growing and growing each day.
You can choose to see how its not so bad but I wont accept any of the croutons its going to sling at me.

The time is coming when we have to decide if we are willing to take a stand against this stuff, or sit back with everyone else and say "Thats not so bad".

That's how I felt about it when I read it. Been a few years since I read it, though.

Some of the speculation in The Da Vinci Code was quite ridiculous. That's for sure.

Oh my goodness people, the books are fiction.

What in this book is against the Church? (Rhetorical question. I read the book.) Here is the summary from Wikipedia:
Angels & Demons is a bestselling mystery novel by American author Dan Brown. The novel revolves around the quest of fictional Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon to unravel the mysteries of a secret society called the Illuminati, and preclude a plot from annihilating the Vatican City using destructive antimatter. The story recounts the conflict between science and religion that brought the establishment of the Illuminati, and, after centuries of non-existence, the group is thought to have resurfaced for retribution against the Roman Catholic Church.
In case that is in any way unclear, the heroes of the story are trying to protect the Vatican.

But does the book properly represent the history of that conflict, or is it the typical misperceptions? When one writes of history in a fictional novel, then it's important to get it right instead of repeating tripe, which Dan Brown did in DVcode. That's going to create a reaction. Plus, DVcode was poorly written and researched.

I'm glad the Vatican refused them permission to film in the churches in Rome. Studio sets will hopefully remind people that it is in fact a work of fiction.

That's the thing--I don't think "the media" is attacking our faith. It seems like this author is, at worst, misrepresenting or putting a negative spin on history, but nowhere in the book or the movie is our faith attacked or put on trial. The Eucharist, Mary, Jesus' divinity...none of it is called into question. That's why I am imploring you to not get worked up. It's historical fiction. That's it.

Our Faith includes the structure of the Church and Her authority and infallibility. That was attacked by the novel.

But getting worked up merely gives those dumb enough to use novels like this as education more ammunition against us. Cool discussion usually wins the day, if discussion will be the means.

I didn't see the book as an attack against the structure and authority of the Church, but as an attack on fictional characters who occupied positions within its hierarchy.

Oh. Yeah, that book was lame, through and through. No arguments here. I don't feel that way about A&D, though.
