MIKolbe
Hello Pham- Had our meeting at Loma Linda today. It went well... long, but well. Appearantly Loma Linda is a 7th Day Adventist Hospital..I didn't know that...I will have to bring extra rosaries to distribute while we are they. LOL Met the surgeon, Dr. Bailey. Wow, very humble, soft spoken man. The kind of man that exudes confidence and relaxation at the same time. We both like him. He had a student with him. Addison held Dr. Bailey's hand (finger), the whole time, as he was talking to us. He drew out (on paper) how they would fix Addie's hole, explained the procedure, etc. He answered all our questions..patiently and thoroughly. The Dr. said that this is a very simple procedure, but he said he is saying this as a surgeon; and he understands for us it is not 'very simple'. He humbly asked for us to give him Addie for a day and he would give her back to us 'all fixed'. That really made us feel better and helped to put things into prospective. Other than the hole in her heart, Addie is quite healthy and the Dr. feels she may only need to spend one night in the hospital. I was concerned about pain. What would she feel, how much pain would she be in? He said that on the first day, they are medicated with narcotics, which start from the surgery. They are gently waned from them and put on a regimen of tylenol every 4 hours. He says with this, her pain is managable and after 4-6 days, she would be very much pain free. The Dr. said she will bounce back very quickly, but pegged complete recovery in the 4-6 weel time period. Her enlargered heart, from the ASD, has pushed her liver down a bit; but Dr. Bailey feels after about a month, the enlargerment will fully shrink back to normal, as well as the liver resting back in its 'normal' place. The surgery is scheduled for the morning of Wed. 2/18. We have pre-opt this 2/13 (this Fri) as Monday is a holiday, and Tues there are 'no pediatric events going on', so 2/13 we will get there at 9:30. Appearantly this will last 4 hours. We will pre-admit Addison, do a chest x-ray, echo, draw blood, meet the anethesiolgist (sp) and will meet with Dr. Bailey's nurse practitioner to go over anything else we might need 'going over'. We will also be given a time to be at the hospital on 2/18..though preliminary extimates put it at 5am. Thank you for your prayers. The best way I can describe this is we can feel them. Thank you. More updates to follow. JMJ, Jason PS- Almost forgot! During the surgery, both Shea and I will have an apparatus (like a pager) that is updated in real time from the OR. We will know exactly what is happening and when. Not only is that cool, but it is reassuring as well.

Vincent Vega
This is good to hear. Loma Linda is a great place - they developed the proton therapy that healed my grandfather of his cancer. I have confidence that they will heal little Addison as well. Prayers continue from Jacksonville! Edited February 10, 2009 by USAirwaysIHS
