Why Is The Federal Government Directly Interested In Dtv?

Well, since it has been decided "digital or nothing", yes. They have just as much right to Saturday morning cartoons as the rich kids. Not to mention the great stuff on public TV. -Katie

That's my thinking. An excuse to get bigger, and have more people completely dependent and pacified.
And it bothers me that the Federal Government effectively gains power over the media in the process.

Aha, ok. Tv is a "right."

Yes, everyone has the right to watch "Gilligan's Island" reruns and "The Andy Griffith Show" at federal expense.

In this day and age, I think kids with no access to TV are at a serious educational disadvantage. Yes, there are a number of inane shows on TV (though, like I said, I think all kids need a little mindless diversion now and then), but as they grow up, not having access to news, etc will be a problem. -Katie

People can buy their own converters.

Yeah, the kids without television know how to read. We better nip that in the bud.

Not if they're 8 and below the poverty line. -Katie

The digital switch will render non digitally enabled TVs unable to pick up a signal and the families of most of these kids couldn't afford to enable their TVs. -Katie
The government gives you two coupons, so it costs you about $10- 20 to upgrade 2 TVs per household.

Actually, many shows on TV help children learn the alphabet, letters, numbers, etc. (I should know, I watch these shows with the kids I babysit). Didn't you ever watch "Reading Rainbow"-great show. This is especially beneficial to children in high poverty areas as in many cases, the necessity of both parents working, or absentee parents means that they're not getting any extra help outside of the classroom. -Katie

That is excellent and I didn't know that. To be honest though, many of these kids were poor to the point of not having winter coats. -Katie

Last I checked newspapers were still being printed, but of course that would involve reading!!!

I figured there was a good reason that, for the first time ever, the "wealthiest 1%" began paying into the tax system over 40%. And the top 10% pay 71%, and the top 50% pay 97% of all taxes.

That bears repeating. The top 50% are paying 97%
So that people can buy a house that they cannot afford, and watch digital tv in that house.

The voters have realized that they can vote themselves other people's money. And the Political Class knows this. And Washington has power over the digital media in the process. It's the perfect plan.
