And... news to you, Mr. President... you still can't get digital TV in rural areas, even with a digital T.V.
That's the part of America with all that religion and guns, isn't it? cmotherofpirl
I gotta head to bed too. And we don't have tv. Any. And our 9 kids are fine, btw. In my America, there isn't a *right* or a *need* for tv, let alone to have other people pay for it. Our Federal Government is doing a great job of subverting minds. It's a nice racket, they control the digital tv signals, and they make sure that everyone has a digital tv in their homes. We are not to far from State-run media.
rkwright
Tink... I think you're missing the point here. It isn't about kids and TV or the effect of TV on kids. Its why should the government be providing people with a TV converter box in the first place. You say so that kids won't be at a disadvantage. But think of everything else... should every kid get a car at 16 so they're not at a disadvantage? Is every kid entitled to college so they're not at a disadvantage? Alas, our country has no idea of what our government is supposed to look like per the constitution. But whatever... what are you going to do... Seriously I really take a second guess when people say I'm proud to be an American. This is not the America we were founded on.

BG45
My point was Australia's federal government has been managing its digital television transition, also mandated by their federal law.

Tony
I love how Febuary 17 got nailed into everyone's heads who watches any kind of TV, and then a week or 2 before then, they change the date to June 12! I for one have messed with any converter boxes but I can tell you, (but wouldnt mind doing so) but I can tell you that in some cases, where you would get a "snowy" signal with anolog.. you would get NO Signal with digital. Even a local program touting how great digital TV was going to be and all that mentioned that instead of getting a weak signal, we would get no signal... and htat somehow, you are better off with no signal than a weak signal! Now Granted I have Satellite, but I still enjoy monitoring old fashioned rabbit ears tv for hobby purposes. some signals can travel a LONG way during the spring/summer months. (I've logged stations from Dallas and Little Rock before from here in Cleveland, thanks to skip conditions, and have gotten as far as Buffalo via line of site) but with digitial.. I have a feeling all of th is will be MUCH more difficult to do. most of the times i dont care about the programming, i just like to find the signals, maybe write a station saying "Hey I got your signal from here in Ohio!" I have a feeling this will be much more of a challenge with digital. if you are interested, search youtube for "TV DX" there are some interesting videos there. Anyway, thats my soap box. Thank you federal government for ruining free tv and possibly a hobby. good luck getting your hands on those coupons too.. the money for that program is gone, they gave them to basically anyone who requested them from what I understand.
