I might just do that, only with praying. i'll have to talk to someone first
Archaeology cat
I've finally figured it out. Or rather, prayed about it and came to a conclusion. So I'm gong to spend an hour a day in prayer (preferably at the beginning of the day). Part of this will be going to daily Mass when possible, and getting there early enough to pray the Office with the monks. I'm also giving up yelling/raising my voice in anger. Excelsior1027
No eating in between the three main meals of the day and fasting (not just abstaining from meat) on every Friday, besides the required Ash Wednesday and Good Friday fast. I'm also gonna work on my prayer life. It needs some fixing up. I was talking to my spiritual director the other day and there are definitely certain things in my life that I need to focus my prayer on.

Lil Red
+J.M.J.+ Found this quote via Dawn Eden:
He saw he had to explain. "In the first place, remember that a Christian does not merely renounce unless the thing is wrong or a matter of sin. He renounces in the sense of giving to God. Now, nobody would insult a friend by giving him something that he thought was evil or ugly or that he himself didn‟t like. A lover doesn‟t walk up to his ladylove and say, 'Of course, I know this is a bunch of milkweed, and nettles; but because the horrible bouquet is so hideous, I am giving it to you.' That‟s not a gift or a sacrifice; that‟s an insult. A man doesn‟t say to his friend: 'Here, you take this steak I ordered. The darn thing is tainted and, anyhow, I don‟t like steak.' 'Here‟s my dog. It's got a vicious temper; I suspect it's infected with rabies, and it will probably bite you and the children; but please accept it with my compliments.' "So the Christian wouldn‟t offer God the sacrifice of something which he regarded as ugly or vicious or worthless or belonging to the devil. No; the Christian ascetic renounces because he realises that the world is so glorious that only God can rightly wear its jewels upon His hand; only God can rightly enjoy the world‟s great music; only God who painted the great landscapes of earth can properly appreciate them."

Lil Red
+J.M.J.+ From February's Magnificat:
As Ash Wednesday draws near, the good Catholic will consider what to give up for Lent. Too often he will "sacrifice" a foolish indulgence that prevents him from being more worldly than otherwise. He may give up some innocent game, like golf or bolwing, to burn more of his time and his soul at work. A woman may give up sweets, to wear an especially revealing dress to celebrate the Lord's resurrection. But there is one thing we need to sacrifice if we are to enjoy new life, and it never occurs to us to give it up. That thing is the world. T.S. Eliot knew it, and makes that radical and fearsome sacrifice the heart of his vision of repentance, in his poem "Ash Wednesday".
he then goes on to quote and dissect Eliot's poem. BG45
Not sure really. Computer? Can't give it up, all my courses are online as well as 90+% of all applications I fill out for jobs. Soda? Gave it up 3 years ago period. Going to the movies? Not really a big movie person, I've seen zero this year. Chocolate or candy? Not big on them. Snacks between meals? I don't really snack unless the parents buy something for all of us. Gaming would be an awesome sacrifice, except I've not played in weeks due to my schoolwork and liquidation schedule....and trust me, I'm twitching from it.
