MithLuin
Living on a farm isn't complete protection from such 'interference' The cable guy missed our neighbor's house and so drove back our driveway by mistake (while no one was home). Technically, I suppose he was trespassing. He noticed our three-legged feral cat, and reported it to...someone (I'm hazy on details). They responded by showing up (again while no one was home) and leaving a note saying they did not see the cat, but that if we didn't have it destroyed, we were in trouble (I imagine we were threatened with a fine, like you were). Not having much choice in the matter, my mom starved and caught the cat, and dropped it off at an SPCA or some place like that. Considering it was a wild animal, I have no doubt they put it down immediately. So, as my dad tells the story, the cable guy decided that our cat should die. Kinda messed up. For some background on the cat - it suffered a serious injury to one leg, so that it dangled at a weird angle. The cat did not seem to be in any pain from this...backwards...leg, and the leg did not atrophy or anything. However, as a result, the cat mostly ran away and wouldn't let anyone come near it...for years. It still ate the food that my Mom put out for it, though, so it was (I suppose) still 'our' cat, though as I mentioned before, feral. It must have come around when the cable guy drove up because it was hungry, but just because he was shocked by the animal's appearance didn't mean it was really his business to report anything. Certainly, we aren't the only people to have had a three-legged barn cat, and the cat really did live for years that way, and would have continued just fine as long as we kept putting food out. dauntingknight
Look at the law very carefully and look for flaws and loop-holes. Look to see if the city is just picking on you or is it for the mardi gras celebration. Edited February 21, 2009 by dauntingknight

Sarah_JC
Is there a "car heaven" program in your area (or something similar)? You can trade in old cars for bikes or bus passes or the like. Maybe that might be a solution?
