lost_in_this_world
so of course Bill Maher made his atheistic quote and sean penn kinda made a jab at anyone in support of prop 8. i think its great that these people have opinions but can they stop telling other peopel they are wrong for thinking the way they do? i have no hope for bill maher but sean penn was a little disappointing. anybody else have any thoughts or other quotes from last night? Excelsior1027
Just thinking to myself that if someone had said something in favor of God and of our need for him, they would have been branded as someone imposing their beliefs on others, while Bill Maher and Sean Penn get off clean. Nuts.
dominicansoul
A.R. Rahman, the composor of Jai Ho, the best song, did mention God in his speech...it was cool. I'm not sure if he's hindu...so i wasn't really sure what god he was speaking of... ...but i thought of Our One True God when he said it..... kafka
it was a celebration of sexual immorality: best actor was given for a film that glorifies a homosexuality as if it were a civil rights issue best actress was given for a film that glorifies statuatory rape best supporting actress was given for a film that glorifies illicit sexual relations "Dustin Lance Black, who won original screenplay for "Milk," also gave an impassioned speech in favor of gay rights." HisChildForever
I expected Sean Penn to say something, seeing as he did play a homosexual character.

I was so glad he mentioned God, and glad that Slumdog Millionaire got best picture. It had plenty of violence but it wasn't gratuitous, and it was ultimately uplifting. Of course I was very put off by what Maher said, but no surprises there.

Snowcatpa
I too was disappointed about Sean Penn's and Dustin Lance Black's acceptance speeches. To be honest, however, I simply turned the cancel during Mr. Penn's understanding immediately where it was going. I respect their right to free speech to point out these issues but I'm sorry we don't have any films or something comparable on the movie scene to stand a fighting chance in this arena. I'm eagerly awaiting the first truly great openly pro-life film that can artistically touch the Academy with the evils of abortion. Similarly, I'm eagerly awaiting any realistic portrayal at all of the love humanity should have for all people, including those with same-sex attraction, while at the same time being firm in it's message that marriage is not something we can redefine no matter what someone changes in the law. That will be an Oscar's worth staying up for
track2004
Dustin Lance Black's speech was a heart felt testimony to how much Harvey Milk affected his life. He was standing up and saying that in his young life this man had given him hope. In a country where people got killed for being gay (and still do) I think you all should realize that him telling young gay and lesbian kids that they are beautiful and loved is good. Sure he supports gay marriage (as do I), sure he supports gay rights, sure he makes it a civil rights issue, BUT the core of his speech was about how much Milk meant to him and how much he hopes the movie means to younger generations. Also the first line of Penn's speech was hilarious. I won't post it here because it's not appropriate, but still. Hilarious.

LouisvilleFan
So, what are the Oscars again? Oh yeah, an opportunity for pointless drama. Meh.
Ash Wednesday
Wow, um, I didn't follow the Oscars at all. A couple of glances at the news here and there, saw Winslet headline for her win, mostly I was just curious to see if Ledger won. I enjoy movies, but really -- I could care less about an elite, bigamous, borderline incestuous, drugged up coked-out group that live lifestyles and spend enough money to feed a small country and want to patronize and spoonfeed us peons with an "agenda" -- whatever it happens to be according to the times. No thanks.

I haven't found one yet.

Hilarious.
you can receive the same affection and the same inspiration from the Almighty God, but you won't accept it, because God's unconditional love demands unconditional love for HIM on your part: ...God tells persons of SSA they are special and greatly loved by HIM, but by living an active homosexual lifestyle, they are destroying their beauty and rejecting the gift of Love HE gives to them... ...so, rather than accepting God, active homosexuals choose their lifestyles and their sexual impulses and their sexual lusts and reject God...as well as God's love for them... the only "hope" Milk offered homosexuals was a false hope, one that leads to a life of sin which mortally wounds the soul; what Sean Penn and Black were glorifying in their speeches was this total rejection of the Almighty God and life everlasting...
