eagle_eye222001
Really? Why?
Every year St. Louis holds a fair over the July 4 weekend and they have a free concert. One time they had Lee Ann Womack and she sung this song. However that was not the memorable moment. The memorable moment was in the middle of the song when my mom gave me hug with tears in her eyes told me how she was so proud of me and was sad to see her firstborn growing up (I was 12 at the time I think) Reflecting there, I realized that my mom was very sad to see me grow up but was very hopeful that I would lead an upright life. Lines such as "I hope you still feel small When you stand by the ocean" - basically don't become too smug....don't lose your humbleness "Give faith a fighting chance" - don't unjustly dismiss God "I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance" - when we grow up, we tend to fear the future, and this line tells us to not fear the future and to look forward strongly. "Whenever one door closes, I hope one door opens." Parents don't like to see their children fail and when they grow up, they pray that they find the open door. "Never settle for the path of least resistance" I know my mom doesn't want me to just do whatever is easy in life. This song seems to be about a mom speaking to her child or children. And being the firstborn, I am sometimes the biggest reality to my mom that her children are growing up (first highschool student, first college student etc....)and she hopes to see us "dance" live life to the fullest, take risks, don't take life for granted, This song is not really solely MY theme as much as it is my mom's theme for her children as they grow up and being the oldest child, I tend to make it most obvious to my mom that her children are growing up and will leave her one day and likely marry someone else and raise another family. It's kind of a theme song of my mom and I. Song and the lyrics just fit so well of a mom singing this to her children. ------------------------------------------------------- Title: Lee Ann Womack - I Hope You Dance lyrics Artist: Lee Ann Womack Lyrics I hope you never lose your sense of wonder You get your fill to eat But always keep that hunger May you never take one single breath for granted God forbid love ever leave you empty handed I hope you still feel small When you stand by the ocean Whenever one door closes, I hope one more opens Promise me you'll give faith a fighting chance And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance I hope you dance I hope you dance I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance Never settle for the path of least resistance Living might mean taking chances But they're worth taking Lovin' might be a mistake But it's worth making Don't let some hell bent heart Leave you bitter When you come close to selling out Reconsider Give the heavens above More than just a passing glance And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance I hope you dance (Time is a real and constant motion always) I hope you dance (Rolling us along) I hope you dance (Tell me who) I hope you dance (Wants to look back on their youth and wonder) (Where those years have gone) I hope you still feel small When you stand by the ocean Whenever one door closes, I hope one more opens Promise me you'll give faith a fighting chance And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance Dance I hope you dance I hope you dance (Time is a real and constant motion always) I hope you dance (Rolling us along) I hope you dance (Tell me who) (Wants to look back on their youth and wonder) I hope you dance (Where those years have gone) (Tell me who) I hope you dance (Wants to look back on their youth and wonder) (Where those years have gone) ----------------------------------------------- ---------------- Listening to: Linkin Park - The Little Things Give You Away via FoxyTunes

philothea
Nice topic. Some great picks, and I'm going to have to investigate the ones I don't know! Mine used to be Atom Bomb by Fluke, but I am trying to suppress my supervillian tendencies. Nowadays... maybe Sophia by the Cruxshadows. (Yeah, yeah, it's a bit... ah... pagan, but the sentiment is good!)

MissyP89
Pray for Rain by Casey Stratton:
Feel the early morning light On your face We’ll be all right The wind whispers to the trees “We’ll be OK If we believe” In memories and in words We’ll find some hope We’ll find our way With love we’ll mend the past We can’t go back But we can move forward And forget all the pain Lie next to me and pray for rain To wash away The violence that has ravaged our hope I know we’ll chase away the heartache Somehow I know just what to say I know how you feel I’ve felt that way Looking around it seems so pointless But if we can just try It won’t be hopeless In dreams and in words We’ll be much more We’ll move with grace With peace we’ll mend the past We can’t go back Take my hand I have so much love for you right now The light hits your eyes And I melt Forgive our mistakes And let’s move on You’re exactly what I need I know you need I know you need us
I Hope You Dance is the song that compelled me to admit my feelings for Phil. So it's kind of the opening theme for our relationship.

Paddington
U2 - Where the Streets Have No Name I like to think that song has something to do with something or other about how I feel. And the Gummi Bears theme is always good for something or other.
icelandic_iceskater
I have so many, and it changes constantly. A couple that never seem to leave though are Hanging by a Moment-Lifehouse & Savior-Skillet (along with every other skillet and lifehouse song) I love how relevant some of lifehouse's songs can be to faith.
